I think piggies are the best pets ever. Cute, cuddly and vocal little animals. But this is the third or fourth time (I really can’t remember) that one of the herd has had ringworm. Sweetie is on Intrafungol but I’m just waiting for the others to show signs. I’m bathing them all again on Sunday with anti fungal shampoo but I really can’t take much more of this.

Poor Sweeties nose looks awful today. I’m cringing every time I look at it. She doesn’t seem too bothered by it, as she’s just happier to be back with the herd. She was miserable alone.

I work full time in a job that can be stressful, we are doing up the house and I have assignments due in for the course I am in the middle of. The piggies usually relax me but I'm more stressed than ever.

I love my piggies more than anything but if someone had told me that they would have ringworm outbreaks once a year or so I would have literally thought twice. I must be really bad at looking after them to be this unlucky. Now I’m paranoid the dog will get it.

And it’s Christmas. Almost.

I don’t think I will have any more piggies after the herd. I just can’t cope with this anymore :(

Yes, I can sympathise with you, looking after sick piggies can be physically and mentally exhausting x

Aw thats so sad dont dispair! Piggies are wonderful and cost less in vet bills than some other pets. We have just treated mites (I thought successfully) then adopted a pig with ringworm, and teeth problems- she's getting better and now the mite treated piggy is going bald again so we're back at the vets in an hour!

You must be doing a brilliant job just to care so much, lots of people ignore piggy illnesses. If you've been to a vet and got treatment that's the best you can do. Your piggies are very lucky. You'll get through this and all the piggies will get better and it will just be an anecdote to tell people like with any pet or child illnesses, you can be the forum ringworm expert and help everyone.

Healing wheeks and vibes from Jezzy baldy mite pants pig and Blodwen wonky teeth ringworm neck pig!

So sorry you're having a nightmare time, have never had to deal with ringworm but from this forum have learnt a lot and how much hard work it is to treat!
Know how deflating it is to have constant probs. My chinchilla Poppy had teeth probs for years, she was PTS in Feb and have now had her bro unwell for weeks and still not eating for himself. Got my bladder piggy Rupert, Rosie my 12 year old cat that has flea allergy dermatitis and still have other pets, my annoying epilepsy and life to deal with!
Gets pretty depressing but they bring a lot of joy so hopefully that'll help with all the stress :)
Hope it all gets sorted soon x

You are not bad at looking after piggies just bad luck. You are a wonderful slave and your herd are lucky to have you x

Sending you hugs, I felt exactly like you in September. I was taking 8 hours a day on deep cleans and piggie medicating, the longest most exhausting time in my life. I was lucky as I'm retired and could cancel the rest of my life for a week. My lot had parasites and worms, and one was post op. You will get through this, things do get better and you will start enjoying them again, it takes time. I know from your past posts you are a brilliant piggie slave, you've caught the ringworm early so hopefully it will clear up quickly.

Huge hugs, it's not down to your care but these things happen at the worst possible timing. I know pretty much every illness my piggies past and present have had is always centred around night time, bank holidays, me just about going on holiday, being hectic at work with no time for vets visits etc. I remember bumble waited til the evening two days after I wrote my car off and my other half was working away. It's awful and completely drains you when you have no energy reserves for them to drain.

However I have, time and time again, said I will let my group naturally decline to a pair because I simply cannot do it anymore. Then you go through a quiet period and see a piggy needing a home and once again you have a group.

Be kind to yourself though, you are a wonderful piggy slave and things like this just happen for no apparent reason. I hope you get on top of it quickly and that it doesn't spread so you can have a rest

It is very stressful when our piggies get sick or require extra attention (on top of the 100% of what we all already do for them) i think we have all felt it was too much at some point, then we see them happy and popcorning and the cuddles we get and we know why we do it to our selves . I find mine get sick or injured at the worst times, I remember when i got guineas again about 5yrs ago it was 5pm on a Christmas Eve and I got home to find Ted rolling around like his neck was broken! I nearly died! Emergency vets on Christmas Eve for an ear infection  and there are many more examples. I even once asked the vet if she could prescribe me something for stress!

Oh no. I remember your last outbreak and the amazing way that you dealt with it. I hope this round soon clears up and that they never get it again.

I have just found the tube of Daktarin I used this time last year. Can I use that on the piggies rather than F10 barrier cream? It would be easier to apply than F10 cream which is quite thick

Oh the expiry date is 5/19. But it has been opened for a year so I don’t know how effective it would be

We were prescribed Surolan ointment, then Mycozole spray, for ringworm. It seems (god wiiling, weather permitting, touch wood) to have cleared up in 2 weeks. Mycozole spray has about 50 doses per bottle so might be a good thing to ask the vet about if you have multiple piggies, its 1x 0.2ml squirt per 200g body weight. So about 5 squirts per pig per day. Cost about £40 which seemed a lot for 1 pig but there's enough in there for a small herd or a second outbreak...
