Looks like another round of illness, Twinkle is not herself. She's quiet but has been eating (hay, cucumber and coriander) this morning but just seems to want to doze, Breathing seems rapid and hard but no nasal discharge, listened for rattles and breathing sounds clear.

She's booked in to vets in an hour but any thoughts would be appreciated. The others are normal (loud, boisterous etc).

No advice, you've done the right thing with getting her checked out. She weeing and pooing ok? Let us know how she gets on, healing vibes beautiful twinkles way x

Bless her, hopefully she is just having an off lazy day and its nothing to worry about, sending healing vibes anyway xx

Just got back from the vets, there may be a little something on her lungs but this may be down to discomfort as she gave an almighty strangled wheek when her bladder was felt.

Diagnosis - probably cystitis
Treatment - Painkiller for discomfort and baytril (.2ml twice daily to treat infection (would also sort any possible URI)

Twinkle seems a little more settled, off out to get some cranberry juice.

Would welcome any other experience of Cystitis and/or other bladder problems.

Aww poor baby. Usually the baytrill will get rid of it by two weeks. I hope she is well soon.

Pearl Barley water is good for such problems, just boil some pearl barley and drain the water, allow it to coll and syringe, piggies go mad for it and it is a natural healing agent,

Healing vibes xx

Did the vet give you any pro biotic's to give her with the baytril? xx

Lots of fluids, metacam will reduce the inflamation of the bladder wall and the Anti-biotics should kill any infection (if there is one present)

Pearl Barley is something Flintstones swears by and has used with great sucess with Patrick. we are giving the Pearl Barley a go this weekend ith Treacle as she is still poorly and blood had returned last night :(

Really hope Twinkle feels better soon x

Thank you, was looking at pearl barley but may try cranberry first. No pro-biotics but Twinkle has munched on Stars poo so will go that route.

pooh soup is always a great option, but if a little gets on your trousers, remember it's not melted chocolate. please keep us updated on how she is doing..

Oh no mate sorry to hear bout Twinkle :(
Pearl barley is brilliant! Aka Patrick juice! I have used this and honestly it's great, you have fluids and the barley which they need. I also still used probiotics.
Please give little Twinkle lots if healing wheeeeks and loves from us all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Had her on my lap for a cuddle this afternoon while watching the tour de france and she was very loving giving lots of kisses. Seems brighter but seems to just want to sit somewhere comfy. Sue has had cystitis and I know how uncomfy she gets so it must be really bad for a small piggy.

Update on Twinkle.

She has got through the initial 48 hours of baytril with the usual loss of appetite. Today she started to munch her way through fresh green spaghetti and her hay. Also had a little romaine lettuce. Although still miserable she has shown more activity and had some head bumps at little cosmos who tried to nick her lettuce.

I really hope she's not peeing blood anymore.....and that she's not in any pain! UTI's are just horrible :...

She hasnt been weeing blood. We noticed she was off colour (ie not diving into salad breakfast) for 24 hours so we took her too vet. When examined she gave an almighty wheek when her bladder was touched.

We may have caught it before the blood stage because we are paranoid or it may not be cystitis at all and simply the results of an over amorous astro.

*huge huggles to Twinkle* hope she gets better soon xxxxx

Aww poor Twinkle, we all now how painful that is 8...8...
My guinea pig book, which is my bible! says barley water (same as the stuff humans drink) as much as you can get her to drink from a syringe. And a dose of honey on the end of a teaspoon twice a day. Give her genitals a dab with warm salty water a few times a day too, keep it nice and clean.
Feel better soon baby x>>

Bless her. I hope she is feeling better soon. I know that almighty wheeeeeeek all too well, Esme didn't enjoy having her bladder touched either.
