Hello, I bought two brother boars from a breeder at the start of this year. They were 14 weeks when. I got them and very happy together. After about 3 weeks of having them, they began fighting (squabbling) due to the dominant pig, Honey, getting a cold but things settled and they were happy again.

I have now had to separate them as Bumble (black) had two bites and I didn’t want them to come to any further harm.

I have attached a video and I just don’t understand their behaviour. They seem to want to lie next to each other but still seem to fight through the barrier.

Can anyone help?!

Hi and welcome!

Your boys are now in the thick of the the teenage months. Please take the time to carefully read this guide here; it takes you through the whole subject and all your options: Boars: Teenage, Bullying, Fighting, Fall-outs And What Next?

What you are witnessing in this pictures is what I call a 'power lie in'. The boys are marking the edge of their territory. Unlike what most people assume, it is not a desire to be together but a dominance gesture. ;)

Thank you for your quick response. Do you think there is any hope for them to be back together?

They are chattering away and have been for the last hour now. It won’t let me upload a video but I can now see they are doing the wiggle bottom so definitely dominance.

Unfortunately, serious bites is generally the end of the road for a pair of whatever gender. :(
Please take the time to really read through the guide link I have given you in my last post!

Have you considered getting them neutered, then they could have a wife or two each? Or you could try boar dating at a rescue. Not sure if you are in the UK, if you are have a look at the Rescue Locator (on the green bar) they usually offer boar dating.

Thank you, this is my next consideration as I can’t stand to watch them be alone! 😞
