At the moment, I've got Garry and Minty in one cage and Benjamin and Dave in the other. They're about three feet apart and one is slightly lower than the other so they can't really see each other. I could put them alongside each other, but would that upset the balance within the two pairs?:{

Hi Emma,

I have done this and seen no problems just a load of sniffing through the bars from Pudsey and Sunshine. I think although they are both dominant boars if it come to it I could pair these 2 up with no problems. However without bars is a different story isn't it?...lol

Maybe its worth a try, or then again if they are ok as it is then you try it my upset the mix a little.

Thanks Louise!

Think I might leave it for now...Ben and Dave are OK still (touch wood) and as they are 8 1/2 months and nearly 5 months, it's quite a delicate situation! It's just that Ben has now got a habit of chewing the bars...not constantly, but often. I'm almost certain it's because he's searching for treats although he still does it when he's been given veggies and the like, but I wondered whether he was doing it because he can hear/smell Garry and Minty? The wonders of piggies eh?!rolleyes:))

I have done it with my boar pairs in their c & c`s, downstairs I have 2 pairs and a single and another pair in a purpose built cage which the others can interact with during floor time.

I found at first they rumbled, scented and chewed bars a lot but it all settled down within a few days and none fell out!

Hmmm. Am still undecided. Minty, Garry and Ben used to live together and then Ben fell out with Minty and was bullying Garry and either Minty or Garry took a slice out of Ben's ear. So I don't really want to risk Ben falling out with Dave if he got the hump with the other two!rolleyes:)

I know what you mean but if you tried it for even a few minutes to guage their reactions, you can tell if they are getting stressed by it!
They know the others are in the room anyway and know their noises and smell, so you may be surprised that they are not too bothered :))

I am pretty matter of fact with my boars now, I tell them off if they start with eachother and they look towards me and go and do something else rolleyes I used to be so scared about them falling out too but I have only had one pair fall out seriously when I was less experienced :{
