Junior Guinea Pig
Hi guys,
I recently posted about Blue (Blue is sick!) who was X-rayed at an exotic vet, she told me he had mild pneumonia.
His symptoms are:
- on and off raspy/congested voice (some days he sounds clear other days very blocked)
- the occasional cough and sneeze
Other than that he is in high spirits and you wouldn't know he was sick - this has been going on for a few months now.
He was prescribed doxycare and arthrocam (metacam) and sent home.
Two weeks later, his symptoms have not improved in the slightest. His voice sounded awful on Thursday evening so I booked him another re-consultation yesterday.
We then met with a different vet, this man had been working there since the 90s or something, so I trusted I'd get helpful advice.
However, he completely contradicted what the first vet said, and explained that what showed up in Blue's lungs on the X-ray was 'minimal' and said antibiotics were not necessary ?
So he took Blue OFF antibiotics and kept the metacam. He has now booked Blue in to be put to sleep and have further investigations more focused towards the back of his throat to see if there was anything there (as I mentioned the voice changes).
I'm obviously confused that two different vets (at the same practise) have looked at the SAME X-ray image but come up with two completely different outcomes!
Has anyone experienced this or even any advice? Thank you all <3
