Two female guinea pigs peacefully chewing on each other's teeth?!

We have two very happily bonded guinea pigs, who are sisters. They don't fight and seem to live peacefully, but recently they've been doing a really odd thing where they get right up close and chew each other's teeth - almost like a very weird kind of kissing! It sounds HORRIBLE though I imagine its helping them keep their teeth trimmed. Anyway - I'm wondering if this is normal or something indicating a problem? I can't find anything at all online. Thanks

That is not something I have ever heard of them doing as part of any normal dominance or bonding display.
I highly doubt it has anything to do with keeping their teeth trimmed given the only thing that does that is eating hay and grass - the teeth are kept properly worn by chewing hay with the molars. Incisors are self sharpening and kept healthy by the correct action of the molars.

Yes - I meant the teeth trimming as a bit of a joke! I am absolutely baffled. They're definitely not fighting but I've never seen this before.

Do you have a video? Gosh, there is always something new in guinea pigs. Grooming does have a lot to do with status marking, but this is something I've never heard of before

My vet had to wash food out of Polo's mouth to get a look at his molars. All this green stuff came out. Perhaps there is something probuotuc about mushed food and poop in there. That's the only thing I can think of

I’ve not seen or heard of anything like this. I have seen piggies stealing food from each other’s mouths so maybe that’s what’s going on?
