what about leaving bits of veg around the garden, then you can check the veg later and see if it has been nibbled at? and if it has you know their still around and well :)

I am so sorry that your two babies have got out.
I know this maybe going around in circles and you could have already done it but have you asked any of the neighbours or local children if they have seen them.
I am preying that they are found soon.

my mother said she saw an animal on the lawn when she looked at one in this morning as she was awake.
she couldn't see if it was a rabbit or guinea pig, so she waited for it to move to see if it hopped or not, but after half an hour it was still eating the grass. We do get rabbits in our garden though and there was only one of whatever it was.

Lots of good tips on here, especially about rustling the bags, mine squeak when I clip the shears together as they know they're getting grass. You're obviously doing all you can.

Was the inside of the hutch disturbed - like when they've been scared the hay/shavings or whatever are usually ruffled up and the newspaper shows where they've skidded off.

Can the guineas get out of your garden? Are there gaps etc. Can you look for poo's also, I know it'd be looking for needle in a haystack though. Good luck ...

I've been trying to think what I'd do. You need to try and find out if it was a guinea or a rabbit/hedgehog. If it was your guinea maybe it feels safer coming out at night, can you get up several times in the night to look out and check. If you got a torch and shone it out of the window you'd see better what it was, especially if it ran away. You could then see where it ran to - it would probably run to wherever it had been hiding. Be prepared to whizz outside and catch it - have torches ready and something to throw over it - like a blanket or washbasket. Having said all that, that might frighten it and it may run off completely, so perhaps best just to see where it goes. What a dilemma. Just trying to think of anything that may help :'(

sorry to hear about your missing piggies, hope they come back safely...

*manda*

Maybe you can start looking around everywhere forGP poos? Its one of the ways how I found my missing gerbils in my house, the room they were hiding in had poos here and there

That's a good idea. O0

I just found this thread, sorry to hear about the oinks - I hope you get them back soon.

Aw hope you find them soon
My friends bunny recently dug a tunnel but didnt use it 98) and then the piggy ran through it and escaped
It was missing for a day then the cat thought i was a mouse , caught it and brought it in.
Luckily it was only slightly injured so now its back happy and healthy

I once lost mine for a while. I had one of my pigs in a pet carrier and she jumped out of it and under the hutch, took a while to find her again but we got her. It definately helped shaking a bag of hay.
Good luck & I hope you find them soon :)

awww I'm so sorry you havent found them yet :'( must be heartbreaking.

looking for poo is a good idea.. try n get the dog to smell the poop out my dog likes eating guinea poop (yes she is disgusting) so it might help track them down..

look for any little holes in your garden too where their possible escape route is and try to follow where they could possibly have walked had then gone through the gap..

i agree in getting up during the night to check if its them or a rabbit, or if you leave your computer on at night hook it up to a webcam and focus it on the garden, better if it has night vision as you'd know for certain then.

OMG - just read this thread - I am so sorry your little piggies have gone 'awol' - I really hope you find them soon. :'(

Wishing you loadsa luck that you get them back safe and sound O0

Hmm...We couldnt catch our rabbit once and it just slept behind the trees have you checked behind everything?

They could of been stolen.I dont think you would of just "forgot" to shut the door... :-\

I'd knock on doors...I put mine in the shed locked because there are some straaange people around these days...

Anyway good luck x<3.

Sorry for not updating this sooner.
There's still been no sign of them yet. As I mentioned, the dogs couldn't sniff them out, so its unlikely that they are in the garden, but I really don't know.
In response to Jillybean's questions this is how the hutch was found:
Its hard to tell how they left the cage. It's not likely they were stolen as its a fairly quiet village.
Thanks again for all your suggestions.

I really feel for you. It's so sad seeing that empty cage. It looks as if it's close to your house so not isolated or anything like that. It's a real mystery, a very sad one. Keep your chin up, as they say.

For anyone wondering, Bubble & Squeak haven't turned up. Not much more I can say.

I was hoping someone did take them and cared for them, so very sorry for your loss. x

RIP Bubble and Squeak 0:) 0:) 0:)
Oh love i'm so so sorry :'( :'( :'(, i too was hoping for a little miracle, sending you heaps of ((((((((HUGS))))))) and piggie kisses from us both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I was thinking "fox" first of all,but a fox would not have been able to pick both of them up at once,so one could have escaped. In any case,if it was fox,I would have thought you would have seen signs like blood or fur in or near the cage.

It is such a shame, they are gorgeous piggies.

They could still be hiding somewhere.

So sorry you haven't found your guinea pigs yet, my heart goes out to you.
Don't give up hope just yet.
(((((hugs))))) x
