Hello, I have two male Guinea pigs and they've been living together for a year now. The eldest is 3 year old and the youngest is 1 year old, they never had issues until the youngest started chasing and mounting the older one. They became very violent and the vet told me to separate them for a night, and put them back together the day after in a neutral space. I did that, and they were good. A month later the older one started mounting the younger but it wasn't violent, so I let them do what they had to do and everything seemed normal. But after a couple of days I noticed that the youngest ate less and less vegetables. Now he doesn't eat, he doesn't drink, he stays layed down all day long while the other eats everything. Please help me understand if their living together is a problem and if I should separate them, or if the youngest has health issues

Hi and welcome

Please see your vet asap for an acute potentially life-threatening health problem today! Not eating and lethargy are red alert symptoms.
How long since your younger boy has started to decline?

Be aware that hay is making over 80% of the daily food intake while vet is about 10-15% - so your boy can eat a lot less without you noticing.
Switch to weighing daily at the same time instead of the normal weekly health monitoring weigh-in and step in with support feeding asap if you want to have a chance to save his life.
Please take the time to read the links below to keep your boy going until you can see a vet at the soonest and to get him through the crisis if possible.
Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment (contains all our emergency care advice and information)
Weight - Monitoring and Management

The mounting has been likely a reaction to the developing crisis and not the other way around.

Thank you so much for answering, I called the vet and I'll be taking him today.
