I tried introducing Hattie and Hilda (established pair) to Mildred and Mable (established pair) everything seemed fine and they all seemed happy (were together for around a hour or so), and then from no where Mildred just went for Hattie. She was chasing her round and you could see her teeth, she was also grumbling and chattering her teeth, Hattie responded by chattering back at her and showing her teeth. So we obviously separated them and they are now in two indoor hutches next to each other. Can we try putting them all together again? or are we best just keeping them as two pairs? thanks x

Moving two established pairs together where there is no big gap in size/age can be tricky as the two leading ladies can get very "handbaggy" (We call a showdown between girl "handbags at dawn" ;)).

I would give them more time on neutral ground to see whether they can sort out who will be top lady without major scraps; try the slow approach. If it doesn't happen, I would leave them separated.

Thanks, yes they are all similar age and similar ish size, although mildred who seemed to initiate the attack is the smallest! Its interesting that it was her and Hattie that had the showdown as Hattie has always seemed really chilled and we thought her sister Hilda was the boss of the two of them, but apparantly not!
Two pairs is not a problem as we have two outdoor hutches, two indoor hutches (ony one run but we can soon sort that out)
Sorry, I have another questin, how do we know when to intervene? I dont wanna rush in with the towel and separate if its somthing that they need to sort out for themselves? whats normal in the sorting out of heirarchy?
thanks xx

Thanks, I'll check it out. Dunno how brave I am though to let them sort it out lol! x
