Ok so first off I'm phoning the vet tomorrow, typical they get sick over christmas!

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas, suggestions?

Mdluli seems to have lost a small amount of hair from under her ear, the hair is really rough too, but the skin is only a little red, not flaky or inflamed?

Nala woke up with a swollen eye on christmas day and it was weeping and crusty, I bathed it in a little warm water, boxing day it was much more open and better and it was bathed again, today most of the weeping is gone, its not swollen and she is holding it open but the whole eye is cloudy .... it looks normal unless you look really close!

Like I said I'm phoning the vet tomorrow morning as soon as they open, I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas?

I feel like such a bad piggy mum having two sick little ones 8...

Sounds as if her eye is repairing itself they do go cloudy when they are trying to heal. Have you got any eye ointment, the sort you get for conjunctivitous, you can use a small amount of that, maybe worth a vet visit to get it checked out though, not sure about the hair loss on the other guinea though.

I'm not sure about the eye problem, but the fur loss sounds like it might have mites. one of mine once had mites, and she had fur loss with reddish skin like yurs. I hope they get better soon :...

I dont think its mites, there are no raised patches of red indicating bight marks, the hair loss isnt severe or over her back where mites tend to start, she isn't itching either :{

Is it possible they could of had a bit of a fall out if they are kept together?

A cloudy eye indicates damage, but if it is improving then this is a good sign and could have been something as simple as popcorning into the water bottle spout (as one of mine did!) I would get a vet to see them both, obviously as you are doing.

The hair loss again could have been from a fall out / fight, as could the eye damage. Does she have any scaly / flaky skin / dandruff anywhere else?

No her skin seems normal, its just slightly red around the hair loss, the hair loss isn't extreme, its more that the hair has gone rough and short than actually fallen out? Its behind her ear and a bit down towards her throat?

I guessed maybe fungal? I dont know like I said I will call the vet tomorrow, I was just wondering if anyone had experienced anything similar ... I did wonder if the two illnesses were linked as they happened at the same time?

Poor old Mdluli she hasn't had much of a year what with an operation in July as well :(

Does the hair look 'snapped off' at all? Like a shorter layer in her normal fur, coupled with the sparse bald bits?

This could indicate mites, though in my experience that usually starts on the back in a 'v' type shape - but not always.

Not really no, it almost looks like its been pulled out or chewed? So maybe Mdluli and Nala had a little spat? I'm not sure :S

The rest of Mdluli's hair is normal, no bald patches or anything its just on her one ear and around under the throat on one side?

I'm really confused mallethead

Ok so thanks to everyone who gave me advice, the vet found a 3 mm scratch accross the top of Nala's eye, she is on eye drops for the next week, he thinks it will heal but will be scared for life poor little pig, I wish I could work out how she did it 8...

Mdluli is still a mystery, the vet dosn't think it is fungal or mites, so maybe they have been having a fight? In a vague attempt to not have to seporate them to see if its fighting the vet has told me to put hibi scrub (surgical soloution) in the area for a couple of weeks, it will kill anything fungal (just incase) and also tast horrid so non of the others will pick at it, I'm taking her back to the vet in a couple of weeks to discuss how she is getting on mallethead

Hibi Scrub? I'm not trying to over-rule a vet here, but I would think twice about putting that on my piggies skin where another could lick it.

It may well contain ingredients that are toxic to Guinea Pigs. That kind of thing is jam-packed with a horrendous amount of chemicals. Not to mention the alcohol content could very likely end up making the skin a lot more sore and irritated than it already is! :...

The only real way to determine whether something is fungal is to have skin cultures done and analysed. Has the skin got at all worse in the past few days? Does she have any other signs now? Whitish plumes on the skin? Dry feet / ears? x
