As some of you may be aware, I recently adopted two sows!

Tragically, I lost one of the new sows on January 30th!

Today, I discovered another of my older sows had died!

Of course, any unexpected death is of concern, especially when the guinea pig in question is a new addition. . . Therefore, to have lost two guinea pigs unexpectedly, within a matter of days, especially as one of the guinea pigs in question was a new addition, my concerns, and fears are amounting!

Help?!

It may be advisable to have your piggies checked by a piggy savvy vet, especially if your new girls haven't undergone quarantine either at your place or a good standard rescue.

You may just be bad luck. I lost two of my piggies unexpectedly last month a week apart to unrelated issues. I am very sorry for your upset; it certainly wacked me!

Thank you for your reply, Wiebke!

I can confirm that the new sows were in quarantine - The remaining sow from that pair has remained in quarantine, and will continue to remain in quarantine for the foreseeable future!

The two sows in question, and their cage accessories etc, have been kept completely separate!

Sorry to hear of your losses. Sounds coincidental but you could get the remaining piggies checked over by a vet.

I'm really sorry for your losses! How old was the older sow who passed away? If there was no contact between the two pigs or their belongings, it could just be bad luck. But I would probably worry enough to take the others to the vet to be checked out.

Thank you all for your replies!

@ Briony_Y - I did consider having a postmortem performed on my older sow! However, I understand that they are rarely conclusive?!

@ Freela - The older sow was approximately/ just turned three years old!

At this moment in time, I am expecting a call from my veterinarian on Monday morning!
