I have a two sorey hutch with a ladder. I've read that some guinea pigs don't like to use ladders. So far they aren't going downstairs, although one can go back up the ladder, but doesn't go down it.

Do you have any ideas for how to get them to use the ladder? They don't seem to go for treats on it.

Thanks.

Sarah

It has wooden ridges on it and a low side to the ladder so they won't fall off. What kind of carpet could I use that I can fix onto the ladder and won't get really dirty?

Hi, when we first adopted our boys from Woodgreen animal shelter we had to have an inspection and were told to put sides up on the ladder and an extra 'rung' between each step as they were only young. It did take a little bit before they got it. When it was bedtime on the first night, I had to lift Bubbles into the top and by morning he had worked it out himself. Hope that helps.:)

I have a hutch with a ladder to the second floor, I just used old fleece and double sided sticky tape, which means the fabric can be cleaned:

^ if you scroll down you'll see the customised ramp. After a month in place i've started to remove the fabric and they're fine running up and down on their ladder now. Good luck! :)

yes, whatever you use on the ramp will get dirty, which is why it had better be removable so that you can clean it :) I use a strip of vetbed and it works really well for us.

Thanks. I have some vet bed, so might use that, or else I'll try and find some fleece.
