My sister is looking at the Sage House from Pets at Home to house her potential new piggies.

I was just wondering if anyone else has one of these or similiar?
If so, do the pigs use the ramp ok to get up and down to the floors or are they scared to use them?

Hi

I got a two tiered hutch from Freecycle, and I've got two boars in it who are ok with the ramp (although there were a few scary moments at the beginning where they kept falling down the hole :{) - but I've got another hutch with two levels that I just use as two hutches because none of my other pigs will entertain the idea.

I had two pigs come into rescue with a hutch with a ramp and they were fine with it.

You can adapt it to put carpet or similar on the ramp so it isn't slippy... but not all pigs will use the ramp and it can take up a lot of the cage space

Personally think better off with a bigger hutch on one level?

I'm afraid I agree too. Despite managing a ramp in my C&C cage my two boys have turned into whimps since I've introduced them to a lovely large two tier hutch! Depsite raising the ramp so that it is a gentle slope and trying all sorts of bribery they just won't use both levels - it's SO frustrating! (Thankfully someone gave me the hutch!) I would definitely recommend going for a larger single level hutch.

I have a 2 stoey hutch with ramp my 2 wouldn't use it at first but we glued carpet to it & they were up& down it within seconds probably because they could get a better grip on the carpet & were not afraid of slipping

I have 2 girls in a 4ft by 20in double with ramp and 2 girls n a 4 ft 6 by 22 single. I would go for the single evry time. The upstairs of the double is a waste of space there is a sleeping area and a walkway (as i call it) They go downstairs but not a lot I always find them upstairs and will be changing to a single level as soon as poss.

Thanks everyone for your feedback!
I wasn't sure whether to recommend a two-tier hutch and I appreciate your views on one.

Our 2 pigs both managed the ramp although now I have put a block of wood at the bottom to give Nibbles a step up, we only had one incident, Bubbles leapt onto the bottom of the ramp but aimed too high ending up with her front legs on the ramp and her generously proportioned rear end hanging off the edge! She was well and truly beached! I lifted up her rear end and parked it on the ramp, she went to the bedroom in a strop and biffed the pigloo really hard so that it blocked the door! She was really annoyed but we had to laugh!

Hi,
I have a double hutch and my guys love it. I have altered it a bit though, I placed a piece of wood over the opening to the ladder down to make the hole smaller and put a house over the top so they think it's a bit like a bolt hole. I made sure that the hay was nice and deep at the bottom just to make sure but they run up and down in now no problem and I've had them in it for two months now and it's been the same since day one. It looks a little different now with all the covers on but here is the hutch I have. The house on the bottom is now up on the top floor where the opening is. Hope this helps.
