A few days ago I had a young boar try to assort dominance over another and the dominate male of the group stepped in. Well he got a nice chunk bitten out.

I took him to the vet where he received a week of antibiotics to take and 2 staples.

I took out the teenage boar and placed him in his own cage. ( Much to his anger)

Well this morning when I went to administer the medication, low and behold he had pulled his staples out. (sighs) No vets are open until Monday sadly.

I'm continuing his treatment and have kept the wound clean. I'm just afraid he might of consumed the staples. We could not locate them in the mist of all the pig home. None of the 3 in this run have showed signs that they ate the metal staples. They are all munching and pooping happily as ever xx>>>

Is there anything else I should be doing? I'm not sure if I will be able to take him in the morning due to work. If I keep up his medicine and keep the area clean will he even need replacement staples?

i guess it depend how big the wound is. if its quite big and deep, i should think it would be best to get it stitched up again. leaving it open wont do much for healing. then there is the risk if infection with an open wound.
prehaps wash with salt water until you get to a vets, and then ask about alternative such as skin glue or intradermal degradable stitches so they cant be pulled out? but on the down side might need a wiff of gas.
suppose you could phone and ask if you would be able to speak to vet/nurse. they might be best to advise on what to do.

Your vet should have an emergency helpline number - often on their recorded message when they are closed. You could try that for some advice.

When freddie cut his stomach open he pulled out his staples, his wound had healed enough by then for it to be left though. I found the staples his his cage though, can't see they would eat them?
