So the boys have had some spinach and mini carrots today and I've just realised that the date on them was yesterday, AND it's a use by date, not best before. I don't think I've ever seen veg have a use by date on them before and everything still looks and smells absolutely fine.

It's too late to stop them eating it now, sadly. Argh. Why didn't I notice it before?
 
I generally ignore "best before" dates on their veggies because best before dates are whack, tbh. Especially if the bags or whatever are still sealed - the only thing best before dates are good for is getting cheap veg >.>

But I've never seen a use by date instead of a best before date before, and now I'm kind of paranoid. I generally follow use by dates strictly, but I can't understand why carrots and spinach would suddenly need them.
 
I wouldn't worry, as mentioned, if it looks fine and smells fine then with veggies it probably is. I've eaten out of date veg too. I am simply more conscious of the vitamins degrading with time than anything else, so if anything your piggies will perhaps not have had optimal vitamins from them this time, but I doubt that anything will actually happen :) x
 
Thanks, guys. Blitzen's still attempting to eat his body weight in mint, so I think things might be okay XD still, lesson learned, pay better attention to the dates next time.
