Please bring any outdoors guinea pigs and rabbits inside until the storm has abated again tomorrow evening. Hutches can be blown over and because the trees are now in leaf, they are much more at risk of being blown over. Don't risk losing them!

Thanks -Just been thinking the same! Weather is really awful out there tonight throughout the UK. Stay safe everyone!

now i am really worried about my outdoor piggies.. their hutch is quite solid but i don't know what to do now :(

their hutch is quite large as we built it up and added storage underneath.. it won't fit in any of the sheds or garage as too large.. i have a small indoor cage that has been used once when cleaning them out, maybe i should just pop them in that overnight?

Yes I think that's a good idea. Unless anyone else has a better option for you? x

They are in ! My other half assured me the hutch was solid enough but even he could see i was concerned and he loves them too.. We have set the little indoor cage up and bought them inside... Poor little things were asleep but I knew I wouldn't of slept knowing there was a risk ! thanks for your help everyone - I would never thought of using my bath ! xx

I've thought of using my bath in the first year I had them as the summer was really hot. I think camping makes you resourceful!

Luckily all mine and the bunnies are all safe and snug in the shed although when I was out at 10pm doing the last checks the wind seemed to have died down x

My boys are in a hutch outside, but they are fine because the back of the hutch is against my house and I have firmly pushed a big heavy bench at the front (as I do every night regardless of weather, although I did keep the bench against the hutch for most of today due to it being windy). The bench is so heavy, it is a two-person job to lift it; I simply drag the bench away when I need to access the hutch.

If it helps my friends don't have an indoor cage as they don't gave room I bought 3 fold down boxes from Tescos £3 each and tied one of the sides up on 2 of them put sticks on the middle one to hold stop the middle one from folding up and tired the 2 ends of gat one up and tired them all together to make a long thin temp overnight cage its not ideal but it fits on a hallway & will keep them safe indoors I'll post a picture later when I pop over yo visit her as I know I'm not the best as explaining x

Yeah stay safe everyone! My piggies live inside anyway.. so they are all snugly and warm :D It's sunny and very windy here in Nottingham.

Should I tell my neighbours about this and that it's a good idea for their outside piggies to go inside? It's rather sunny and quite windy where I am (while watering the flowers, the water went sideways), but the night was bad yesterday and I'm unsure if anything happened as I haven't come on here for a while to see the notice. I don't want to risk anything just because I'm nervous about asking them.

I gather my piggies are fine in a garage?
Which part of the UK Is / Was the storm?
Unless your garage is somehow prone to being blown away by the wind, they'll be fine. :))

I think most of the UK is stormy. Very strong winds, not particularly safe to go outside. Although, since my boys live outside, I can simply pull away one side of the bench (the side that's closest to my house) and hide behind it while I look after my boys. As I said, it's a pretty heavy bench, good for hiding behind. :)

@CarnivalPiggy Sounds like a good idea!

Thanks ^^ How would you suggest going with it? I'm not sure what I'd say to them without them feeling I'm butting into their business.

Edit: I've just watched the weather report on the news, and it says it is calming down. Should I leave it? I don't want to bother the neighbours for nothing

Hmm, it is calming down so I wouldn't worry. Maybe casually mention high winds can blow over hutches, but where I live it's not as bad now.
