Ulcers on genitals?

Has anyone seen these on their guinea before? Jynx went in for an ultrasound for chronic cystitis the other week and has since been spayed. She's doing much better than she was, but I've just spotted what appear to be ulcers on her genitals when giving her her meds, and they look a bit swollen. Sorry for the poor quality; I don't have someone else to hold her!

She didn't like me poking them, but they otherwise don't seem to be bothering her - yet. She had a post-op vet check on Thursday, so these have appeared since then!

At first I thought she was passing more bladder sludge (see below), but on going to massage it out, I realised it was fleshy and not protruding.

Any thoughts? I will take her to the vet tomorrow on Monday.
 
Hi

I would also recommend to give it a gentle spot wash with baby warm water and then contact the vet. You may want to show them your pictures if needed. This needs a hands-on examination.
 
Here's how it's progressed since Saturday morning. She's squeaking while pooping, so it's clearly painful. 😢 Just waiting for the vets to give us an appointment. It smells really acrid like wee but a bit stronger, like puss (though I've not seen any).

I hope that you can get her to the vets. This looks serious sore and uncomfortable.
 
It must have been an abscess as it's popped overnight. It doesn't smell as bad anymore either, so it must've been necrotic tissue. It's sensitive, but she's otherwise behaving normally and gaining weight, so she's clearly still feeling much better than she was pre-spay.

The earliest non-emergency appointment I could get is tomorrow afternoon. Three of the five exotic specialists have left since December, including the one who carried out Jynx's spay who left at the end of last week! 😢

It doesn't look like the abscess was internal, but I'm keeping it clean with regular saline baths and switching the bedding out more regularly. She's been on a dog Metacam dosage of 0.53ml twice a day since the spay, so hopefully this is helping too.

Oh poor little Jynx. What a brave girl she must be. Sorry to hear you’re having trouble getting seen at the vets but clearly the pain relief and your excellent care are helping her.

Hope Jynx is ok. I didn't realise that Ashleigh had lost yet another of their exotics vets. :(

That’s a nasty place to have an abscess.
Good thing she has such a knowledgeable and caring slave who knows what to do for her.
Hope everything heals quickly
 
The vet said it may be a post-op complication, but she's not seen one like this before! Jynx is on 0.53ml of Metacam twice a day which she's been taking consistently since the spay along with 0.26ml of a different antibiotic for 10 days (co-trimoxazole) as the open wound has become infected - which isn't a surprise due to it's location! I need to keep it clean as much as possible which I'm doing with regular saline baths until I get proper antiseptic wipes later tonight.

I'm also to email in photo updates of how it's progressing as 10 days might not be enough for it all to heal. I appreciate the vet being so attentive!

That abscess is also a new one for us... Can you flush it with a syringe (you need to presse quite hard to get into the back of abscess bags). An abscess heals from the inside out but even the tiniest speck of infection that is left inside will eventually make it come back.
You will find more information under bactrim/septrin for the antibiotic. The active ingredient is Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole and it comes under lots of generic brand names these days.

The wound is an open one, so the vet's advice is to keep it as clean as possible with antiseptic wipes for the skin to heal. Here's what it looked like yesterday morning. 😢

Poor girl! But glad that it is an open wound that is comparatively easy to service while it heals out. Not pleasant for you or our girl, though. I wish her a good recovery!
 
Here's the view this morning. I think it's a good sign that the newly-formed dead skin has already gone in 24 hours, so the wipes appear to be helping a lot!

On a separate note, does this foot pad look normal? It's not the best shot but with everything else going on, I'm getting paranoid!

OUCH! that looks really sore! Poor girl. She's lucky to have such a dedicated Slave to look after her.
 
Her foot pad looks red and a little sore to me but it could be the way the photo has been taken. What is she bedded on? Either way, I’d keep an eye on it that it doesn’t develop in to bumble foot. I wonder if she’s sitting in her urine more due to the discomfort from her abscess? x
 
Poor girl.
It won’t hurt to treat her foot with whatever is best for sore feet, and another vet trip if you want to be reassured.
That wound will hopefully heal soon now it’s open and you can clean it properly.
She’s in the best hands with you.

No, this doesn't look good. It looks rather sore.

She's on fleece and is more lively now than she was pre-spay, so I don't think she's sitting in urine. However, she does always seem to leak a bit; maybe that has something to do with it. ☹️

I'm switching the fleece out every other day to help keep the wound as clean as possible, and I've started cleaning her foot with the antiseptic wipes as well, just in case. I feel things are going in the right direction at least!
