Senior Guinea Pig
Yesterday JohnnyPig went to visit Lance, his vet. He was booked in for a dental treatment, Johnny is a life long resident at the rescue as he needs regular dentals. Yep sure enough one of his molars was slightly over grown - his front teeth were a little slanted so I knew something wasn't right but J won't let me look in his mouth at all so I couldn't see if there was a problem further back.
While he was on the exam table Lance checked the bladder - which J kindly emptied all over the table so we took the opportunity to use a strip test to check his urine. Surprisingly, blood showed up on the strip - he had no visible blood in his wee and not a sign of infection (squeaky wees or lifting his botty high when pee/pooing). X rays were added to the day's procedure, just in case he had a stone down there.
A lot of waiting and a phone call later Johnny was picked up - no stones but more blood was evident when the bladder was emptied again so he's on antibiotics for that and if the blood doesn't clear there will be on going studies to see what the cause is, his dental was complete, so now he's back home munching on his fav hay and so happy with all the fuss he gets at the vets - he's a natural show off and loves the attention.
Johnny loves kisses!
