Hello,

I finally got got my kitchen scale today, thanks for all the advice! :) I got a digital scale, and it showed my Coco weighing only 366 grams. Is this too light? I believe she is about 2-3 months old, I'm not sure though. That is what the pet store told me when I got her. How much do your healthy baby piggies weigh? :)

my healthy 10 week pig is 442 grams and from past experience i think thats about average although she is a bit chubby

Does she eat well? Is she active and well in herself? Assuming there are no reasons to suspect she has any illness, I would now monitor her weight weekly. If she is eating well she should steadily gain weight as she grows. As long as the weight is going on and she is well in herself I wouldn't worry too much. Obviously, if she started to lose weight or showed any signs of illness then you would need to be concerned.

Piggys come in all shapes and sizes, just like people. I have 4 - all sows. The smallest (7 months old) is just under 800g and the largest just over 1200g!

my fatty pippin is a whole 1328g! is that over wieght for a boar?

OK we must not forget that this isn't a who has the fattest guinea competition but a topic posted by some one asking for help and advise

Not to be rude, everyone thinks Pippin is great, but that's not what this forum is for. It's for Aiki. And Aiki, if she seems healthy and is playing, sleeping, eating, drinking, and breathing normally then she should be fine. For all we know she was a runt of the litter or younger than they said. I'm not sure about in the UK, but guinea pigs at the pet store here are normally 1 1/2 months old, not 3 or 4, unless they've been there for a while. Just keep an eye on her and she should grow.

Thanks for all your replies. :) When I got her she had a slight URI. This was about 3 weeks ago. She was on bactrim for it for 2 weeks, and I believe she is better now. She's been eating, drinking and playing well, she even managed to break a nail somehow! I don't really believe the petstore either. When I asked the manager about her age after letting them know that they sold me a sick pig, he told me that she was 7 MONTHS! She was too tiny, there was no way she was that old. So I asked another person that worked there and she said that they usually get them in around 6-7 weeks.

Anyways, I was playing around with the scale, feeding her and then weighing her every couple of hours. :D At the end of they day she was 378 grams, so shes gaining weight, it could be that she hadn't poo yet though. :P Hopefully her weight gain will continue and I'll have a nice fat piggy. :)

maybe she was the runt of the litter? sometimes there is one born much smaller than it's litter mates. it could be that Coco will always be petite. :)

We have a very tiddly little girl who is neutered as she had a very traumatic time having babies at only 3 months old :( The lady I got her from said the vet who neutered her thought the early litter would stunt her growth and she would always be small. She is around 8 months old now but looks more like a 2 month old little un! She is my little runt bless her, but seems perfectly happy and runs around like a nutter during floor time! All piggies are different I guess, so as long as your eats, drinks and poos properly, I wouldnt be worried :)

Wilson is nearly 1 and weighe 1.2kg and cindy is about 5 months now :D and weighs about 750-800g... it varies with cindy becasue she is pregnant though lol!
