My girl Lottie has had problems with her weight for 6 months, she had hormonal issues and it caused her to lose weight, she was successfully spayed 6 weeks ago and is completely fine now, but she is still around 150g underweight and I'm struggling to get her to gain.

In addition to being underweight, she has been very picky with her food, she won't eat pellets despite me trying multiple brands and she doesn't want many veggies, mainly lettuce and cucumber.

She does however have a 'sweet tooth' since her problems started, she has cravings for fruit and berries especially, her favourites are cranberries, strawberries and blueberries. She has even stuck her head into my morning bowl of cereal recently which shocked me, I've never had a guinea pig interested in human food, she would've killed someone for a wheeto.

I'm worried she is craving weird things, like my morning wheetos, because of lack of vitamins, minerals and calories. I bought her some Oxbow multi-vitamin tabs as she isn't eating pellets, I hoped this would compensate, but she isn't interested in those either. She eats the vitamin C and urinary support tabs.

She's eating hay normally and I give her fresh grass every day, but it's still not enough. She also likes a sprinkle of porridge oats and a syringe of critical care now and then but she refuses to take syringe feed regularly.

Does anyone have any advice, foods I can give her to put weight on her? She has been to the vet multiple times after surgery and nothing has been found to be wrong with her, she just became a picky eater.

Hiya. Ahhh sorry to hear that Lottie is underweight and a picky eater. I'm afraid I don't have much expertise or experience of this. My late Pedro was always ever so greedy! I'll send you some healing hungry vibes in the hope that Lottie regains her appetite. Xx let us know how she gets on I'll be thinking of her xx

How old is she and what is she weighing. Baby corn can help add weight a little. when she is eating she is having no difficulty chewing?

She is 1 year 6 months old and currently weighs 930g, she was 1100g at 1 year old and has gone backwards when her hormonal problems started, I just can't get her weight back up to what it was. She is a big built, long piggy, so even though 930g is not a bad weight, because of her build her body condition score is really low, there's barely any fat or muscle on her and all bones can be felt easily. She is sleeping most of the time due to lack of condition/energy, it's worrying me.

I haven't noticed any issues with her teeth, she can chew gingerly/slowly when she doesn't really like what she's eating, but put something like grass or cucumber in front of her and it's gone in seconds! I've been giving baby corn with her veggies too, she gets higher calorie food than my other pigs, for example she gets more fruit and carrots whereas my others only get it on occasion.

She has 15ml critical care every day and a sprinkle of porridge oats over her pellets to encourage her to eat some pellets, she will eat a few after eating the porridge but doesn't touch them after that. I feed her Oxbow which is a pretty 'bland' and healthy pellet lol, maybe she's bored with it and wants something a bit more tasty? I was thinking about trying muesli with her, I know it's bad for the healthy pig but for an underweight, picky eater it might be worth a try?

I think you are doing all you can to be honest. If her weight is stable then just keep doing what you are doing, sometimes it can be very hard to get their weights back up to previous. Perhaps some Muesli when she is out with you... you don't want them all to turn into selective eating.. Not sure whether that would offer more calories though or just more food colouring.....

Porridge oats (just the plain ones) can help to put weight on I believe, some of the piggies in our rescue have them and they love them! :))
