Yesterday my Guinean pig passed away unexpectedly. Around 12 pm we had him roaming around the living room with his little friend and we fed him food and he was eating and squeaking away around when we called his name. When I put him back in his cage he was eating just fine and roaming around, he seemed happy. 2 hours later I went to check up on him and he wasn’t really moving so I checked and he was breathing just very heavily, he didn’t want to walk and when he did, it looked like he barely had any force to do so, his eyes looked very watery like I’ve never seen before, I knew he wasn’t feeling good. I took him to the emergency vet and as they took him in they had told me he had passed and tried to bring him back but they couldn’t. I was just hoping that someone could help me out and give me an idea of why he passed all of a sudden and his health declined in the span of 2 hours? Did I miss something? It was unusual, he never really had any health problems besides a stone previously but he passed it with ease. He was happy, eating roaming. I don’t understand how it happened so quickly. It hasn’t put me at ease either that I don’t know why he passed. If I’m being honest, it’s made it harder to cope because it was sudden.

So sorry for your loss. Guinea pigs are prey animals and are good at hiding they are I'll until it is too late for you to do anything about it. Don't blame yourself. As soon as you noticed your piggie was ill you took him straight to the vet.

Sleep well little piggy.
