When putting the pigs back in from their run tonight, I noticed quite a large splash of blood on the back wall of the hutch. It's up in the corner where there is usually a hidey table they like to snooze under. They were cleaned out last night, so I know it can only have happened late last night or today. I have lifted the hay from all corners in the hutch and other popular peeing placeds and cannot see any other evidence of blood at all.

Anyway, this is what I found, it's a little dark as it's from my phone..

Because of how much there appears to be, where it is and how it appears to be splashed, I'm guessing it may be in one of the girls urine. All six pigs have been checked over and nobody has any blood on them or any wounds

I have done a pee test with Willow, Pixel, Pippa and Marmite by feeding them cucumber on my lap on a white towel til they pee and all were nice and clear with no discomfort.

Boris and Polly will have the same treatment in the morning, but I suspect it's not them, as Boris wouldn't be able to pee like this (would he?) and I have not seen Polly pee at anyone like the big girls yet. Plus as she's only about four months old it looks a little high up for her.

To be honest, I'm stumped! I panicked when I saw it, but everyone appears to be fighting fit - no excessive drinking, no weight loss, no other evidence of blood so I guess I'm just after opinons on what to do now

Thanks

oooh dear, there is quite alot of blood there ?/ piggys are really good at hiding illnesses but it sounds like you're checking them thoroughly. sorry i can't help, but i'm sure someone will be on here that can advise you, good luck x

Thats really strange, to be honest I would be quite worried. Just make sure you keep a good eye on them is all I can suggest. To me it does look like a pee splash but you've checked their pee. Very strange, sorry I can't offer any other ideas of what might have caused it.

Oh my...
I'd have thought it was in urine by the way it looks....
Good that you are doing the tests on the towel...
Is anyone wheeking when weeing...?
Good luck bab...!

Nope. The big girls were all quite happy this evening. Polly was fine last night (as she peed on me then rolleyes ) Just leaves Boris, who (as far as I know?) can't pee up walls ..

I just dunno... Think I'll have keep trying them over the next few days? Would the blood come and go maybe? :{

To me the splash looks like pure blood rather than mixed in with pee(from what I can see from the pic). I really hope you can find out whats caused it and I hope all your piggies are ok.

i'd keep a very close eye on them over the next couple of days and if it happens again you might have to take everyone to the vets...:...
good luck bab....

i have had piggies with some form of kidney problems/damage...
and they had blood in there pee... and it really does look like pure blood... even though it was tecnically in there urine....
its very tricky sometimes to tell....

Thanks for the replies guys.

Boris and Polly have been out on my lap this morning and both of these peed just fine too with no discomfort so I'm still at a loss at the moment.

I'll be weighing everyone daily for the next week or so and can only think of doing the 'pee test' daily too.

The only other thing I can think of it to spilt off a pair into the old hutch and bed them on towels, but I'm very reluctant to do this as they are quite a close group and Polly was only introduced a fortnight ago, I don't want to upset the applecart. Plus as everyone appers to now be fine, it may cause upset for no reason

My mind is spinning to be honest. If I hadn't seen this, I would never know anything was wrong. Everyone is active, happy and eating well.

The only thing I wonder is if one of them has passed a small stone. Would the bleeding stop straight away, I guess it may if the obstruction has gone? I just don't know.

Think I may have to give the vets a ring tomorrow and see what they suggest

MEGA HUGS FOR YOU AND FOR THE LITTLIES XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

OMG what a shock to find that much blood!
i do hope you can find out what's happened........ xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>xx>>>

Have you checked their teeth? Sometimes if there teeth are too long, they dig into their gums and cause blood come even if they are fine in themselves.

Hope you find out what caused it and that they are ok.

May not be the same cause of course but I was shocked a few years ago to find a similar-looking blood splash in the cage - turned out that China must have caught his ear with a claw when scratching.

You should certainly ask your vet about this for sure though. Hope everything works out well.

Thanks guys. It's turning into a mystery to be honest! Everyone's pee is clear, nobody is showing any discomfort when peeing or pooping. No cuts or wounds. Teeth, ears, noses and bottoms all blood free. Everybody moving normally, eating well and not over-drinking and no other signs of blood. Everyone's weight is good too. In fact they all look to be in perfect health!

It's very odd! @)

Will report when (and if!) I know any more

I had a mystery blood stain a little while a go, it was very strange, did the towel test, checked them over...no blood in pee or injuries, acting completely normally. It hasn't happened since either, vet just said it was a case of watching them.
Hope everything's okay xox
