Unknown hairloss and skin issues

Hello,

I have a 4 year old piggie who for the nearly a year now has had some hairloss which has worsened in the last couple of months. Hairloss has been on front legs, back legs and stomach. Have been to the vets several times and they are unsure what it is. He has been tested for mites, mange, ringworm, and fungal infections. He is on vit c supplements. This weekend he has developed what I can only describe as what looks like a large graze on his stomach and he seems a bit sad. I have cleaned the area with hibiscrub and am going to take him to vets tomorrow but as they don't know what the cause of his hairloss is I am worried they won't know what the best treatment is! Any advice would be most appreciated! Thank you

Can i ask where you are based?

Is there any cuts or dandruff in the areas of balding?

Thanks for your comment. The vet has given antibiotics (baytril) for his ulcerated area of skin, unfortunately they were still not able to diagnose anything. I asked for info of specialist vets and they are putting in a referral for me with a more specialised vet locally. I will continue with the hibiscrub and also am going to put him on to fleece and tissue bedding for the time being to try and stop any chaffing as the area is on his tummy. It's all a bit of a worry to say the least! Can't fault my vets at all they are wonderful, he's just a bit of a medical mystery I think bless him. I'm based in the south west and there isn't any cuts or dandruff, but the vet did refer to the area as ulcerated.

The antibiotics will help stop any infection, I think it’s a good idea to bed him on fleece for awhile
 
I know this might seem a strange question? But is your guinea pig definitely a boy?
 
Just checked and the vets he is being referred to are on that list so that's great. Yes I think he's definitely a boy as his genitals look the same as my other piggy and the vets have seen them when examining and haven't commented otherwise. Thanks for the vet list :)
 
Just had a quick peak at this thread, is your pig alone? Just wondering if he's stressed possibly? Or barbering

good stuff! If they are on our list then they are trusted and knowledgable.
 
Yes he is alone as he took a strong dislike to both my other piggies however he has been alone for years so not sure if that could be it or not. The ulcerated skin extends under his arm pits so the vet didn't think he could of done it to himself but it's all such a mystery 😢
