Hello Everyone !
This is my first ever post so be gentle with me :P
I have two boars Huxley and Doug; Huxley is 10 months old, Doug is 6 months old and they get on famously I'm pleased to say :)

However, a week ago I noticed that whenever I picked Doug up he was wet/leaking around his genital area and he smelt rather foul. He is eating, drinking, pooping and popcorning like there's no tomorrow and is completely his normal happy self; he doesn't seem to be bothered by it but I am concerned. I have been bathing that area with warm water and it helps for about an hour and then the wetness returns ! Therefore I thought just before I whisk him off to see a vet tomorrow afternoon I would write on here to see if anyone else had experienced similar issues and what the problems could be.

It could be his "man juice" have you seen any on the bedding. Does it set like glue? Is his penis showing signs of injury or it is sticking out far?

No everything looks normal I checked about half an hour ago and nothing is red, sore, swollen. It doesnt look like glue as such its just clear liquid x is it possible its just urine left over from him having a wee? Its just strange how it smells so strong !

It could be the beginnings of UTI - urinary tract infection; if you are dealing with smelly pees version. Good that you are seeing vet; hopefully all will go well.

In case you get prescribed an antibiotic, please ask for a probiotic to help bolster the effect on the guts. If it is UTI, you may also ask for some metacam (painkiller) for the first few days until the antibiotic kicks in.

Hello so sorry I havent been on sooner but I have been extremely busy with it being my last year at university. I took Doug to the vets and the unknown wetness was actually just greasy secretions ! Otherwise he's happy and healthy :)

I have the gorgeous guineas 'just for boars' shampoo and, although I will use it for their full body bath time, I find that it does not do the job when it comes to grease glands. My 2 turn 1 on the 19th and barney, who has a white bum, has had a dirty black grease gland area for a good 5-6 months that I couldn't get rid of....until now..... Swarfega is the way forward - it's a miracle! Cuts through that grease like no ones business and now his bum is sparkely white!

Thank you very much both of you for telling me about these shampoos, I had no idea that they did shampoo just for boars I will definitely be investing in some ! The grease is so difficult to get off and doesnt smell very nice so it would be great to have Doug smelling fresh again xP
