Can I feed my guinea pigs banana? Orange?

Also, I'm not sure if my guinea pigs are even getting any water, and I've never seen them drink it.Now I know that you're supposed to NOT feed guinea pigs Iceburg Lettuce, since it is like 90% water, but I'm just worried that they'll never get any water, and get dehydrated, so.... can i feed them some? Just for the water in there??

It's a lot more important for guinea pigs to eat than it is for them to drink. You can give them cucumber instead of iceberg if you're concerned about moisture, but I'd avoid any iceberg at all. As for the fruits, oranges and bananas are both really high in sugar, so they can have a tiny bit every great once in a while but not daily or even weekly. I mostly avoid fruit altogether, but sometimes will give my boys a blueberry each as a special treat. :yahoo:

I have had my piggies now for a year and one of them very rarely drinks water from their bottle, she gets all the fluids she needs from her veggies and is never dehydrated but she will drink water if she needs to. On really hot days I will give them some extra cucumber for some extra fluids. I don't like to feed anything citrus in case they get those mouth sores I can never remember the name of. My two really love red apple though so they get a small piece or a few peels of that occasionally, they are both fussy with fruit.

Piggies get lots of their water intake from diet. We feed cucumber daily so if you are concerned just add that into diet, piggies love it and it can be fed daily Never feed iceberg lettuce for reasons mentioned above, little gem lettuce can be fed several times a week.

You will find pigs drink more in hot weather and less in hot weather.

Welcome to our great Forum! Lots of advice on here for people new to the Forum or to piggies!
As others have already said cucumber is a great way of getting water into piggiesand can be fed every day and is usually easy to get in any supermarket.
Some of mine drink quite frequently while others very rarely! I have water bottles and a water bowl in each area as sometimes it takes a while for them to learn how to use the bottles. I change the bowls twice a day though as they have a tendency to throw veg and poo into them!
Some do eat a little bit of banana, including the skin but again only feed occasionally. Hope these posts help!

Hi and welcome. Some great advice above. All veggies will give some hydration so as long as they are eating they should be getting enough. It's also worth checking the water levels in any bottles/bowls as they may be drinking when no one is around. This should be evident if the water is going down
