Those who have seen my Dexter and Popcorn thread will know my 6 year old Dexy has been unwell all week. He has a poorly front foot and a sore back knee. He has been on antibiotics and painkillers all week and was doing well.
Vet wanted to treat his front foot as if it was an infection but said there is the possibility of a tumour.

I have found Dexter wedged in the corner and unable to stand this morning. He falls over whenever he tries to move.
Notably and sadly Popcorn is avoiding him….
We have an emergency appointment this morning and I’m expecting to either come home with bad news or to come home without him.

Fingers crossed for my lovely boy

BIG HUGS

I am so sorry. My thoughts are with Dexter and you.

The news isn’t good but it isn’t bad right now.

His temperature is low. Shed is definitely warm enough and the vet checked Popcorn’s temperature to be sure they weren’t both cold. Popcorn was fine so the vet has concluded it is Dexter’s health causing it.

He had perked up by the time of our appointment but she thinks there is something sinister going on, something more than just a sore foot.
He is old so we aren’t going to investigate - it’s not going to change any outcome - and instead will just give him as many happy todays as he has left.

Yes have some more wonderful days together however few or many they may be as you wise people say our beloved guineas live for the moment and Dexter's moments are clearly filled with love 💙

Thank you everyone.

I think I'm going to rearrange the shed so all four of them are back side by side on ground level (currently dex and pops live above Wilbur and Hugo) again. I'm worried if dex passes away in the night that at least Pops will already have the other two next to him and won’t have to be alone until morning

Please keep him on a warm but not hot snuggle safe all day and night round and give him the opportunity to burrow in some soft fleece if he wishes to. That is the best thing by a mile you can do for him as the blood circulation is no longer working well.

Thank you Wiebke. Am about to reheat a snugglesafe for him shortly.
He is clearly reluctant to move too much but has got himself under a big pile of hay and is happily munching his way through it! He still has a very good appetite and is happy given the circumstances.

My thoughts are with you. This is always such a bitter-sweet time.

I’m so sorry to read this. My thoughts are with you and hoping that he rallies to enjoy some more happy days x
