took Harry to the vet this morning as his breathing was worse and you can hear it.

Vet says heart fine so must be something respiratory. I wondered if he'd scratched his throat as I'd caught him chewing skirting board the other day but I guess that wouldn't cause the laboured breathing?

Anyway he's on 0.7ml Metacalm and 1ml of baytril. He also got a jab poor guy. He's lying in his bed now and I can't stop checking on him. Fingers crossed please everyone.

He doesn't sound good poor guy. Anything else I can do? Or should I just leave him be?

Hello Jane,

Poor little fella, is he coughing at all? Is his breathing rattly? Does he have any other symtoms- runny nose, cloudy eyes etc?

For now, keep him warm indoors if possible and make sure he has plenty of blankies to snuggle up in. Keep an eye on his eating/ pooping/ drinking if he does stop eating you will need to hand feed him. But for now it sounds like your doing everything possible.
:)

Hope he improves, lots of good luck vibes to harry x

Are you syringe feeding, if he's not eating on his own he will need to be syringe fed also.

First things first - don't panic! Your piggy is not going to die in the next few hours.

Please weigh an ill piggy daily to make sure that he is still eating enough. If he has lost over 2oz in weight, please start topping him up by hand feeding (mushed pellets will do); if he stops eating completely (one of the symptoms of a full blown URI), you will need to hand feed him fully if necessary round the clock.

I guess that you have got cat metacam with that dose? The baytril dose is very low, anyway, so there is still plenty of leeway if things get worse. How old is your boy and how much does he weigh? Is your vet a general vet?

Please keep him snug and out of drafts and cold places. Get hold of some probiotic (if necessary, from p@h) to counter the effects of the baytril on the guts and add a pinch to his veg or if you are syringing, to the syringe food. At some point, the meds will kick in and make him more comfy.

For a URI to be diagosed, you will usually need at at least two symptoms from the list of symptoms listed in the link. Other things, like dusty hay or wood chip bedding can also cause rattly breathing without any other symptoms.

Sadly he did die earlier. I'm totally heart broken. It does seem like it was a URI. Can't believe how quickly it's all happened. Poor baby, at least it was quick. I think he was suffering since he came back from the vet. Stressed out and still struggling with his breathing. I'd got the bio lapis yes from the vet. Was so hoping he'd come round. RIP gorgeous little ginger one. Thanks for the replies x
