Well it ended up being a cyst, and the vet wants to put her under general and to remove it because the stuff inside would be too hard to drain (was white stuff but gritty)

What shall I do? Chey is 4 years old, but I don't want it to knock her & I have been told on here that it isn't necessary to put her under general. So how do I tell the vet no general, just drain it?

Please help! :...?/

Feel free to PM me if you want to!

Not sure where the lump is and her story but if you don't feel 100% happy to go ahead then don't - she is your pet and not theirs. Always best to get a 2nd opinion in cases like this. :)

Glad it is nothing sinister. x

Whereabout in W Mids are you? Someone in that general area might be able to help.

Lancing and draining a cyst is straightforward but most vets insist on having the pig guaranteed motionless while it's done, hence the GA.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

My vet told me that there was a specialist for exotics in Edgbaston.

Thanks a lot everyone, I'll have a word with my Mum about it.
Has anyone had their piggy under general? Were they okay? Would prefer her not to be put through general though! :...

Laura I'm in Stourbridge, Birmingham.:)

My last post did not arrive, here goes again.

Where are you, where is the lump and how big is it?
There is no need for a GA or even a vet to drain a sebaceous cyst.
I tend to leave sebaceous cysts alone, unless there is a need for me to to remove them.

I had a piggie years ago who had one and my vet said to leave it and see how it went. I hope you can sort something out.

Garnet, could you phone Vedra of the CCT (07721 026401) and ask for the number of a local rodentologist? She will know of one in Birmingham area. You have an option then to see someone who can get it sorted without GA, if you would rather have it seen to and lanced/removed.

Personally, if it was my pigs, I would avoid GA for something as simple and 'harmless' as a sebaceous cyst.
