Beans&Toast
Adult Guinea Pig
I haven't been on here much for a while, the pigs have kept me busy with all their various illnesses, and I've been travelling loads with work.
So much has been going on with the pigs.
Toast has just had her 5th dental last week. Normally she takes about a week to come round from anesthetic and ends up not eating, resulting in more dental issues. Gas was used instead of injectable this time and she bounced back to normal within minutes of getting back home.
She's having random flare ups of Cystitis again. It was under control for a month or so but she's back to squealing when she pees.
She also still has problems with bloating, it's just constant now and neither myself nor the vets can work out why.
She's on Amitriptyline for anxiety, she's always been a nervous pig and stress seems to be the cause of most of her problems.
And lastly the arthritis in her back leg is progressing, but doesn't seem to be holding her back.
Despite all of these things going on she's still happy to zoom around and annoy her sister at every available opportunity.
Beans is grumpier than ever in her old age. She's about 5 or 6 now but is still up for an adventure. Her sight isn't great anymore and sometimes she bumps into things. She also has severe arthritis in both back legs and walks a bit "off" but she's on pain relief and doesn't let anything stop her from roaming around the house. Beans has never been a cuddly pig, she'll tolerate it every now and then but her great love in life is to wander around and get up to no good.
In the past few months I think I've aged about 20 years, gone grey and spent 3 times the amount of money that I actually make on vet bills but I wouldn't have it any other way. I couldn't imagine not having these 2 beautiful pigs
