Hi All,

Just thought I would update on Bupu who has been suffering with depression. For those that don't know she was bullied by her sisters and lost a hell of a lot of weight. She has been on edge for weeks. I put her with Maggie and Nutty. She loves Maggie but Nutty she was weary off. So he now lives with my other girls and is enjoying himself so much!

Well tonight for the first time Bupu relaxed. She has been checked by a vet and there is nothing wrong with her although I am whizzing her back up there on Friday as she is grinding loudly when she eats so I think she may need her teeth clipping (without GA I may add)

She has just ate a tomato lol as I freaked when I saw her relax I thought she was on her way out! But she chased Ellie around the cage for her bit!

She is still a light weight at 1lb 5oz but I weighed her again today and she has lost no more weight thank god. She is so small! her sister Goldmoon is 2lb 9oz and Bupu was a similar size when she came so I feel so sad for her.

She is around the age of 4 now, maybe older. Perhaps they have their time when they lose condition for no reason, this is how it seems for her. I did try syringe feeding her but she was not having it and didn't like the taste of critical care, mashed pellets, mashed veg and fruit but she is eating everything we give her and eating as much as the other girls in her group.

I'm reluctant to let the vets do too much to her because she is eating and although she is losing weight she is still active and seems brighter this past week. I'm hoping she was just anxious and is getting over it. Her water works and poop are fine too. I don't want them prodding her, she doesn't need the added stress.

Will keep you all posted on the teeth issues. I'm not expecting too much from her and I'm suprised she is still here but here is hoping she has turned the corner!

sending all my love to Bupu hoping that she has alot more left in her,
oh thought i might let you know the 200gm weight gain i got from boris in a few weeks was down to corn kernals,
i was giving him some each day and it really packs weight on,it may keep her stronger although you may have to give large quantitys away from the other piggies so they don't get porky;),lots of cuddles to all of you especially Bupu i hope her vet appt goes ok x

Thanks Bonnie, its a worry to knwo what is the right way to go, let them prod her or leave her be. I worry about cancer but can feel no lumps!

Ah corn, very fattening! :(|) x

Bless her, she is tiny! I am so glad she is starting to settle, I too would be loathe to let the vet poke and prod her just when she is starting to come round. I hope she continues to pick up.

I was worried sick when Tuppy got to 1lb 5oz, it is such a tiny size, she did have all sorts of dental trouble though and even with 130ml+ syringe feeding she never gained any weight; along with a couple of other symptoms she had it makes me think it was a systemic fungal infection which was stopping her absorbing any useful nutrients! I always worry when a pig goes below 2lb (unless the pig has always weighed below 2lb).

Thanks Laura. Yeah I put her in the bowl yesterday and she felt as light as a feather but thank god no more weight loss!

It is a worry when they lose so much. Jasper has lost 3oz in a month but he is still 2lb 7oz but still anymore and I will get him to the vet!

Twinkle has a slight fungal infection on his foot (not bumblefoot), he stands in his own poop the mad sod! Even though I spot clean he is so silyl! Goldmoon has a suspected UTI! What happened was on Sunday all pigs were out and one of them bled we didn't know which one as they were all in together (sows and Nutty) checked them all and can find nothing but I suspect Goldmoon as she is a bit smelly underneath! I've given them all cranberry. It took me a few days to keep checking and work out who it may be from! Ron has suspected fungal or mites (he has dandruff on his rump) So they are all off to vets tomorrow! rolleyes Oh and Harvey bunny too for claws clipping he hates them being done! mallethead It all comes at once!

All the best with your zoo!

I am glad that Bupu is still around and keeping my fingers crossed for her to improve! Thank you for the update!

Yes, Dizzy does that with her mites making a return every few weeks and losing weight very slowly, never more that 1/2-1 oz at a go, but it's been more than 3 oz over the last half year! She's five, and I don't know whether it's just old age or something else... She's now under 2 lb - not critical, but worrying!

Just an update. Bupu went the vets yesterday and has gained 3oz in a week! ^) So proud of her. Still don't know what was wrong but she seemed so sad when she came here and then her sisters bullied her but looks like she is slowly turning the corner. She even rumbled at me yesterday! She was 1lb 5oz and is now 1lb 8oz! so I think at the top of my head that is about an 84g gain! She is still light though!

Twinkle's feet are fine, I think it was dirt! lol Its hard to touch him on his feet he hates it, so I bathed him and it went away! Goldmoon is fine too. No UTI but she may have had a slight one which has cleared up through drinking more and having the cranberry! She was never a big drinker when she was outdoors in the hutch but she is now in the shed and seems to drink a little better.

Ron does have fungal only very slight so I am treating him with products from GG. :)
