Today I ended up taking 6 of my 7 piggies over to Rachael Mowbray at Vale Vets in Dursley where she spayed Noodles (it was supposed to be her day off but she came in to do her specially ) - Noodles came through the surgery well - and as well as having cystic ovaries a small tumour was found to be growing in the womb so that came out as well - she was peeing pooing and eating dandelions again soon after - her cage mate went along to keep her company.
Bumble had his ultrasound and he has some slight sludge and a small kidney stone,so a low calcium diet and some fizzy water (she will tell me how to dose as obviously you wouldn't want to cause bloat or blow him up like a beach ball ,so it would have to be done by syringe and measured I suppose ,but I will find that out later) to help ease the stone out, some metacam etc and monitoring - his two wifepigs went as well - one because she doesn't like being separated from her female companion, and the other because she started showing classic signs of a *.T.I on Wednesday night - she has a thickening of the bladder - septrin and metacam prescribed - poor old Nuggets had a nasty lump removed mid may and intermittent mystery squeeking when passing soft poos - turns out the area around his scar is still very sore as is his lower back and the tissue is inflamed - he also has a fairly regular irregular heart beat ,which wasn't picked up by my previous vets,so he is back on Wednesday to see her and another specialist to check him out thoroughly - he is the youngest of all my piggies, but the one who telepathically calls you to stroke him above the eye - he sits by my left shoulder day I night (I am currently on a sofa bed in the lounge) .
They are all in overnight as Rachael saw them at about 8pm this evening after being in the rehabilitation unit (with the animals not for her) and I will pick them all up tomorrow evening at about 8-30 when it will be cooler.Poor reg is the only pig left at home .It is really weird and quiet without piggies around - I don't like it!

Oh I'm really worth to hear your piggys are poorly, how strange having all this going on at once. I'm sure it will be lovely having them all back home tonight where they should be. : ) I hope their recovery's go well. Do you have insurance for them all?

Gosh what bad luck. Poor you and your piggies. I really hope they all recover soon.

I am very sorry about all these issues. Great that the spay has gone well! I also found that Cariad fared much better with Bryn for company when she had her emergency spay.

Fingers crossed for your two ill boys and your cystitis girl!

[ Do you have insurance for them all?[/QUOTE]

yes, they are all insured, although I have been hit with £300 of £50 excess for each condition and they will only pay out 70% of treatment at the new vets for Bumble and Noodles because the old vet put in his notes that he was referring them to someone else - and there is a clause in the small print saying they will only pay out 70% of the bills if they are refered (the costs are practically the same though) - this only applies to Noodles and Bumble ,as Nuggets and Bea I took there off my own bat - the lesson here for others is if your vet suggests a referral get them to write in their notes a second opinion, - the insurers will probably then pay out if you say you sought out a second opinion yourself - so in all I will probably end up paying about £450 I don't have - (it was my deposit for moving house so don't know what I am going to do now) - but bill will eventually come to over £1500 (spent about £400 insuring them all) - so still £650 less than if I hadn't has them insured.

Oh you poor thing, that's very expensive. Guinea pigs as much as we love them are not cheap pets are they

Sorry, I've just caught up with this. What a stressful time you are going through. Your vet sounds amazing, I hope all goes well and they all make a speedy recovery. Have a big hug and Please let us know how they get on x

Oh no, how horrible for you and your pigs :( I hope they all make a fast recovery! xx

I collected all the piggies at 8pm last night - considering Noodles had her spay and tumour removal Friday morning I have never seen such a quick recovery in a pig! - much quicker than when she had her lump removed - nice long neat scar held together with surgical glue - she is scoffing away and peeing and pooing black tic-tacs! - she is back for a post-op check up on Wednesday when Nuggets will also be going to have an ultrasound of the heart - the ultrasounds we have had so far have been £40 inc. vat for the other piggies - but this is obviously a special one as it is £136 incl vat - he will also be having 2 x-ray plates of his spine at £23.46 including vat for each plate.Rachael has ordered in some multimodal food for him (which I have never heard of) so assume it must be like the sensitive stuff I have heard of (she has 2 old lady bladder piggies her self she feeds it to).Bumble likes fizzy water,so have only given a tiny bit until I can ask her how much he should be having daily.
