Morning everyone :)

Update on Pickle, he is settling in fine, eating and drinking well, loved being out on the grass at the weekend. :smitten: :smitten: He is such a lovely little pig. :smitten:

I gave him a bath and his hair is very thin and he is virtually bald underneath. Trimmed his nails which were very long and some had broken off. His back pads are very sore with big scabs, is this bumblefoot? they don't look swollen though.

I think he has mites, so booked in tomorrow to see the vet, as he is constantly scratching and doesn't like being stroked, he keeps shaking his head when you touch it.

He weighs 750g, the owners think he is 18months old, he looks tiny and very thin. Can someone let me know what he's ideal weight should be at the age, many thanks.

Thanks for any advice or comments, as this is my first rescue pig! Ill try and post some pics of him later, he is such a wriggler!

Lou xx

Thats is great he is doing so well. I am sure on health section there is a thread where you can put your piggies weight, check there for some ideas. My boars at 7 months and weigh 770g and 700g. xx

weight depends on the size of the pig. i have a 22 month old pig who weighs 1.4kg but he is a biiiiig pig

if hes 18 months old though i would have thought 750g sounds quite low :-\ i think most are usually around the 1kg mark? ?

I have a rescue pig which had sore back pads. I'm assuming it was from sitting in wet soiled bedding. I used sudocrem on them and they cleared up. It did take a few weeks though to completely clear. As long as his bedding is kept clean and dry they won't get any worse.

Yes I think that was the problem. When I collected him he was in a bare cage no bedding and he was soaked in wee! :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

Thanks alot I'll try that :)

Glad to hear Pickle is doing ok, well done on getting him out of there... hope he's soon putting on weight and condition, I'm sure he will now he's in good hands

Bless him bet he feels so much better now he is with you. My Murphy is 16months old and weighs 1272g so little Pickle has a bit of catching up to do poor little fellow. I'm sure though now he is with you he will soon pick up.

I agree the sore feet does sound like urine burn hope it clears up soon.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of him as he progresses. :smitten:

hoping pickle starts to improve now that he is in a loving home with a caring person O0 can't understand why some people have pets if they don't care for them, makes me so mad :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: good luck at the vet pickle O0 girls send :-* :-* :-*

awwwwwwwww Pickle you are such a lucky piggie to have a mummy who cares so much for you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
I'm sure with lots of TLC and lots of fresh food and hay Pickle will become a nice chubby boy :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Morning everyone

Took Pickle to the vets on Tuesday and he has mites, so the vet put drops on the back of his neck, to be repeated in a month. He should weight about 1kg, I've weighed him this morning and he is now 835g so he is going in the right direction :) :smitten: Also the vet said he is vitamin c deficient so I have been feeding him plenty of kale, broccoli and small bits of kiwi, any other ideas for a vitamin c boast?

He looks alot fluffer today and was very easy to handle out of his cage, bless he is such a sweet little pig :smitten: :smitten: I've taken a few pics this morning and I've posted on the gallery. :smitten: :smitten:

Glad Pickle is inproving Green and Red Peppers are high in Vit C 1/8th on a green pepper (half of a quarter) is enough vit c for 1 pig per day.

Could you add drops to his water? But then the thing is will he drink it? I don't like adding drops but when they are lacking the vit c then maybe its the way to go to give them a boost.

Hope some can advise on that. :)

Update on Pickle, I've had him 3 weeks today.

He is putting on lots of weight, he now weight 940gs! He loves his hay (doesn't stop eating it!) and I can pick him up easily now. :) He is getting nice and fluffy but still scratching alot. The vet said to bring him back after a month to give him another dose of the mite stuff.

He also squeaks very loudly and very high pitched, especially when it's feeding time! bless him :smitten: :smitten: I'm going to leave him in quarantine for a few more weeks yet and then hopefully introduce him to my boars, I am also considering having him neutered but after having a hard time with Angel's long recovery I'm a bit nervous. :-\

He is such a lovely piggie, I'm so glad I got him. :smitten: :smitten:

am so glad pickle is improving and is settling in well :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: it is amazing how they associate sounds with things. our late petal and rosie if they heard the key in the door and then rustle of bags they knew we had been shopping and away they'd go and when we got into their room they would have their noses pressed up again the wire looking sweet with those big eyes of their's. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: hoping pickle stops scratching soon and is soon out with the boys O0 and you have done a teriffic job with pickles O0 hugs for both of you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Glad to hear Pickle is improving. I have two boars the same age and they weigh around 1.3 kg each but they are very big boys indeed (very cuddly though :) ).

I hope he continues to get well.

Pickle is now a whooping 1200grms!! ;) and he is doing great, I'm booking him in to be neutered soon, so he can go in with my group of 4 piggies.

I'm also going to design a c&c cage for them all.

Bless him he is such a character and with the loudest and highest pitched squeak of the bunch! :smitten: :smitten: Ill post some new pics soon

If he is low in Vit C you can five him Oxbow guinea pig Vit C tablets, 50 mg each. One a day on the back molar and they chew it themselves. Available from www.sphsupplies.co.uk
Give a varied diet of fresh veg, not much fruit, just a little as a treat. Hay and grass a very important.

Confused about the mites drops (ivermectin?), second dose should be 10 or 11 days after the first when any eggs hatch ?

The mites and vit c problem are ok now, it was when i first rescued him back in may. Thanks for the tip on vit c tablets anyway :)
