Update On Rodney & Question On Specialist Recommendation?

Well my wife took rodders into the vet this morning. They decided not to put him under GA after she voiced my concerns. Instead they have given us a specialists details in Bedford and wondered if anyone had any opinions on them? Its quite a trip so want to know they are worth the extra cost or if I should just goto Simon in northampton which is quite close. Anyway, the details are:
Scott Vet Clinic, Bedford.

As for Rodney his weight seems to change daily. His eating is on and off although he seems happy with grass and hay, everything else seems less appealing. His weight from the last few days has gone
885, 900, 890, 884g. I'm giving him a little critical care a day just to help although only abut 3-5ml total. I only get a chance in the evening due to working hrs and the wife cant do it. Also, can I use left over critical care later or is it use it and bin it? Its just he gets a bit stressed so dont like to syringe feed him too long but always have some left over and wondered if I could use it later?

I have heard good things about Scotts Vets but I would always recommend Simon and as you are not far away it would be the best idea to go to him first.

As for the critical care, aim for around 5ml per sitting as you are only topping up. I tend to mix it up and it lasts the day if I keep it in the fridge.
 
Definitely take him to Simon Maddock at the Cat & Rabbit clinic, he really is the best vet nearest to you. Should you ever have to use Scotts my vet recommended Natalie Wissinkargilaga as the Exotics vet there :)
 
Just take him & give the Cat & Rabbit clinic your previous vet's details & they'll request Rodney's notes :)
 
Wht I think I will do is get the mrs to phone up both vets tomorrow in the hope we can get him in fri. Really not happy with his weight and want him sorted asap.
 
He will be in the safest hands with Simon he really is a super vet :) Even if your old vet offers to take another look at Rodney personally I would book an appointment with Simon to see what he can do.
 
I agree - book an appointment with Simon and give his receptioinist your vets address at the time of booking. They will get the notes

Well Rodders is booked in on fri morning. I've upped his critical care and he seems ok. Hs weight doesnt seem to be moving generally but sometimes shoots up it seems but then drops back down. For instance measured him at 6pm, and he was 885, same as yesterday, measured him at 9.30pm and was 897.. Cant see how he would change that much in a few hrs? Still seems active enough to try and hump cass. I put her in with him whilst cleaning her cage, they both chased each other 50/50 but no fighting just chasing with a bit of facing off.
She went beserk though when I put her back and was virtually attacking the side of the cage to get back into his.
Feel bad for her but also dont want to risk it affecting his health whilst he is unwell. I'm not sure who we are booked in with as the wife made the appointment.
 
Well Simon filed his back teeth and also cleared out his secretion gland? as that was pretty bunged up. Other than that he couldnt really find anything wrong other than the overgrown/abnormal incisor which he cant really do anything with. Anyway, fri and sat didnt really see much change, but sun morning for the first time Rodders had eaten all his overnight food pretty much, first time in ages. His weight had gone up from 860 on fri to 920 sunday, today he is holding that weight.
I'm hoping its his back teeth which were the problem, they were not bad but he said some pigs are more sensitive than others and get affected easier than others, Rodney has never been a big eater so could be possible this was his problem, fingers crossed.
Some bad news was yesterday put Rodney and Cass together outside and they had a fight, proper jumping in the air. Is looking more likely we might have to take her back to the rescue centre soon, if only she could understand she needs to behave herself, am making good ground with her personally and have got her taking some food from my hand but her and Rodney cant seem to get along in the same cage.
Anyway, Rodney is booked in for a follow up on friday with Simons wife, hopefully he will carry on putting on weight before then and he will be given the thumbs up....
Are you the centre in East Hunsbury? I was reading one of your cards whilst in the waiting room. Keep up the good work!

So glad Rodney is doing better. Yes I am in East Hunsbury and in addition to the sanctuary, I also have a petsitting business and board rabbits and guinea pigs, and do pet care visits to clients houses. I love spending my days around all my lovely little furry friends. TEAS is having an open day on 19th July to help raise awareness of what I do and also to raise funds. It would be lovely if you could come x
 
Thats handy to know, we usually get the neighbours to look after them on the rare occasions we go away but I always feel a little worried so to have a gp expert nearby who looks after them could be a bonus! I'll mark it up on the calendar :-)
