Well these guys are certainly keeping me busy.

The boys that came in are absolute angels and very easy to handle, a friend of some of the ladys at the stables had been waiting to adopt a pair of guineas when we had some suitable, a vet nurse I know came to give them a check and said they were fine so they have now gone to a new home. They showed no signs of aggression with each other at all and were happy as a pair neither had any ear chewing or scratches from fighting so in their previous home the guineas co-existed peacefully as none show signs of any injury, they are all in good condition other than being small. They went yesterday afternoon to a home with no other guineas and will be much adored indoor pets. Their new Mum is keeping me updated on their progress she has waited 7months after her guinea passed away from old age to get any more guineas as she was heartbroken but feels ready to give these boys all the love and attention they need.

Mum and babies
Well the babies are rapidly putting on weight, Mum is still nervous but improving and does not dart for the igloo at the slightest noise she now just sits still so we are hopeful she will be happy to be handled in time, she is stil when you pick her up but not so keen on the actual picking up bit at the moment. They now have a 1m by 60cm cage to themselves and are loving the extra room, the babies are popcorning like crazy. Mum has been called Delilah and her three girls are Lara (with curly coat), Iva who has a mainly agouti face and Daisy who has one side of her face white and the other agouti.
Delilah only weighs 680g and is most likely pregnant again so she is off to the vets on Monday to be checked and hopefully we can get her fit enough to possibly give birth again, poor girl is a sweet little lady and just likes to hide her face and snuggle into you when you hold her.

The three 3months? sows
These girls are now with Cheryl

Kiki
This girl was not originally going to be give to us but thankfully with a little persuding they agreed to let her go. She is still when held but this is due to being pertrified, she has a deformed right eye (which is blind) which was not noticed by her previous owners so I guess she was not handled much. She is a beautiful little girl, most likely pregnant, she is also going to the vets on Monday. Currently hiding in her pigloo or sitting still next to it but looking shell shocked and upset bless her. Currently on her own as Mum and babies were not keen on her company, we hope to find her an auntie to befriend once she has been to the vets as she is not happy alone. She can see, smell and hear other guineas and has another cage sitting next door to hers so hopefully this will reassure her in the short term. Whether she will be happy with handling as yet I don't know as she is just so nervous.

Morgan and Morgause the 10 weeks are settling slowly they are in a large indoor cage in my lounge diner (sat behind me at mo) still nervous but geting better have to clean them out soon as getting a bit whiffy but bless them they are eating well p@h pellets kale and cabbage they are so cute thou! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Well done, both of you :smitten: :smitten:
Would love more updates on their progress :)

Glad you found this thread Ron I thought you would like to keep everyone updated on your " ;)foster O0" girls

I managed to get a few pics without flash when they arrived but when they are settled I am sure Ron and I would be glad to take some for you all :)

Brilliant job both of you - it's always such a relief when they are finally "rescued", people can be very difficult sometimes and change their mind, I'm always hugely relieved when the form has been signed and they are living with me :)

Sorry can't help you out at all - just too far away but just to let you know lots of support is there from us lot in Devon !

I'm sure you'll get some brilliant homes for them too - there are lots of caring people out there :) And I'm sure someone will adopt the little "special needs sow" straight away ! Do you think it's an injury or a birth defect?

Piccies and updates plz too O0

Not 100% sure on injury or birth defect no signs of swelling, the eye is sunken but there she can still blink the eyelid but no sight on that side, no cloudiness or sign of injury so I am presuming defect will be checked on the vets visit Monday O0

Bless to my Mum! She has recieved an inheritance and is going to donate money to cover all the veterinary care these guys will need, and we will probably have some left over for the vets fund, also she has given the money to cover the insurance, mot and tax on my car for the next few years which is contantly used to transport supplies and guineas. She has always been so supportive of my animal craziness tolerating me walking in with a carrier which was always met with..and what have you brought home now! Even after I moved out my parents are always happy to help with the animals even though they sometimes meet news of new arrivals with ::) they are behind me all the way. I got all teary eyed when she visited today and told me, she even offered to help muck out, she is a Mum in a million :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

you've got a mum in a million their Vikki! O0 0:)
my mum sits on the phone and listens to me ranting on about guinea pigs i'm sure she must be doing something else shesays all the right things and even when i'm ranting about work she's humming and ahhing in all the right spots!
Roll on Mothering Sunday!

Vet visit today.
Well Ron, me and 8 guineas took a trip to the vets today.

Rons girls are both about 3 weeks pregnant both with 2 or 1-2 babies expected.

Delilah does not feel pregnant again but it is early we will wait it out and get some weight on her, babies are definately all female and doing well.

Kiki is not pregnant but again she will be staying with us for a while just in case, her eye could be a birth deformity or injury but the vet said it did not require treatment just to keep an eye on it in case of conjunctivitis and make sure it is clean.

I took one of the brindle abby babies along as he had always had a dot with a sideways bottom and was increasingly looking hermaphroditre or female with a large added extra, the vet could not expose a male organ from the ample dot but thinks he/she may be female so has been seperated for now and will go back in a couple of weeks for re-checking. I thought it was just me having trouble sexing some of the litter but the vet was having problems too!

a quick bout of shopping, tea and chats and a very tired Ron departed for home

Pleased for you both that nothing major was found during vet check - perhaps not as many babies on the way as you first thought after all.

Hope they have all settled into their new environment now too, some just seem to take it in their stride whilst others find it more difficult.

Keep us postted anyway O0
