So I recently just got two female piggies, they currently live in a play pen and they’ve been there for about 3 days. I need to put them in a cage and I‘m thinking of getting them a Midwest Habitat Plus. I want them to have as much space as possible so I’m thinking of getting two separate cages that are connected. Any other recommendations? I’m also thinking about a DIY cage.

I know lots of people on these boards have Midwests. I upgraded my boys into a c&c and it’s been brilliant for them, so I would put in a vote for those, as you can really adapt the shape of them to suit whatever space you need.

There are lots of good DIY ones out there too though, try Pinterest or Google images for some inspiration 🙂

A midwest cage meets the minimum size requirement for two sows of 120cm x 60cm. If you have the option of putting two of them together, then that is best as it’ll give them more than just the minimum space

this is our thread on member c&c and homemade cages. it may be of use to you

I have a queery, I have an indoor cage for my pigs for the winter but it's far to small and I need to upgrade. I was wondering if either of these ones I found online are suitable and would anyone recommend them. The reviews are good and they are much larger size so meets the recommended living space for guinea pigs. On the website Zooplus there is a ferplast 140x60 and 160x60 cage, of course the bigger would be ideal but I'm still looking into if it would fit in the space i have. The reviews are good but I want good advice aswell.Screenshot_2020-10-27-09-50-07.webpScreenshot_2020-10-27-09-32-36.webp

@Funnyshapedpig - it is best if you start your own new thread.

it does depend what sex your piggies are as to which one is suitable for long term use.
the 140 is fine for two sows but it is too small for two boars. The 160 is obviously better but two boars really need 180cm x 60cm So while the 160 is a lovely cage (I do have one as a spare/emergency cage), it might be a little tight for two boars for long term.

I would really recommend my cage I purchased it for £35 from Amazon and it came with I think 36 grids and I was able to make it to the size and shape I wanted. It's really good as you can simply add grids if you want to extend. I just used some left over lino I had to create the bottom but you can purchase other cheap material online. Best of luck finding the right Cage!:)

You could always buy some extra grids to attach to your current cage to make a super cage. The cage could be where their hay, food etc goes, and the extended grid section could be for running, playing etc.

Not sure if that would work with the space you have, or if you have any other pets etc. but thought I would throw it out there as a suggestion 🙂

Also, I had a good sized store bought cage for my boys, but moved to a c&c cage about six months ago and love the space it gives them. But I’m sure some Midwest owners will be along for better insight on that specific cage.
