Hi all! I have a very beloved piggie called Sid who we rescued about 7 months ago! He was born without lower incisors and the time between trimming his upper teeth is getting shorter and shorter! We used to take him to the vets every 6-8 weeks and now we're lucky if it is 2-3 weeks before he has to go back! He's such a well mannered boy and doesn't mind at all, but we've been advised it may be better to have his upper incisors removed completely under anaesthetic...? Does anyone have any experience of this at all? Should we consider this?

When his teeth begin to get longer we also tend to notice his nose gets a little snotty! So it may benefit his overall happiness!

Thanks in advance! :)

I can only advise that you don't use a north east vet for this procedure. I have just moved out of the region, and no vets are capable of guinea pig dentistry. I used one of the best GP vets in the region. They were great with bladder stones and urinary problems, but not with Teeth. I ended up sending my pig on 500 mile round trips to have specialist dental treatment which was well worth the effort. 5 weeks constant hand feeding after a dental with a vet in the north. 2 hours after her dental with the specialist she was eating unaided again. It really is worth travelling to get to a good dental vet.

Simon at Cat and Rabbit Clinic in Northampton is now the only vet I will trust with my pig's teeth.
