As in my previous threads i've mentioned snowball and cookie having colds...since we had cookie. They both got treated with Baytril and snowball has been constantly stuffy for a week, which his been on Baytril for. It doesn't seem to be going, but the vet said it could be a abscess on his lungs.
But what i saw tonight has made me think different...Cookie was sneezing/coughing( sounds like a baby!) and had discharge come from his nose...So the vets did say try separating them as the cold could be spreading from one to other, so tonight it's been upsetting but i've had to separate them, they've been living together for around 2/3months now and snowball is like cookie security blanket as he is only 5 months. I'm worried that they may not accept each other again, as they would have to be separated for 7 days?

It's all such a mess! Stresses me out sooo much8...8...8...8...8...8...

If you must seperate them then don't worry. You can re-introduce them by cleaning the cages completely ( I'm sure you already know this ) and putting a teeny weeny ( and I do mean teeny weeny ) bit of Vicks on their noses and bums ( thanks Helen for this tip ) when putting them back together - they will smell identical and should accept each other without too much trouble. Hope they're both fighting fit soon. x

What is the reason for seperating? If they have both had it then why seperate? I would ask your vet to try a different antibiotic if the Bayrtil isnt working. The bug might not be sensitive to it. Ask your vet. Also if it need to be taken further and your vet thinks its an abscess then maybe get them to take a quick xray of the chest to confirm this? Also, quick quiry, what bedding are you using for your pigs?

x.

In my experience you need to treat a suspected URI at least a week longer than the last symptoms have disappeared; just one week may not be enough and the symptoms will simply return.

Have you considered a possible dust/hay allergy?

I'm separating them because once one gets rid of the cold quicker than the other he catches it again! And before baytril they had another one which tasted like banana. The vet also recommended not using saw dust so there on just straw and hay x

They still have anti biotics left so will finish it, they both always are munching and wanting there treats and drinking, so in the way there fine. And there both on just straw!

did your vet say weather they were to stay in the same room as each other? as if it is airbourne they will still keep catching it from one another.

Also what about fleece no dust then may help.

hope they are feeling better soon.
