Hello, we are about to take Biscuit to the vet but are going to have to wait to be seen (hopefully I can get bk here on my phone to check for replies)...

Biscuit, one of Coconut and Cinnamon's daughters is not very well. She's lost some weight and today well, just now I've noticed she's very lethargic, rocks from side to side and it bloated like a balloon (hollow noise when you tap her tummy) - she's also making a wretching movement and bringing up what looks like mucus or foam?

Any idea what's going on? Seems more bloated on one side.

I do not have any advice but I just want to wish biscuit the best of luck.

I can't say one way or the other, but bloat (if that is what it is, and it does sound like it!) can be life-threatening to piggies, so I'm glad you are getting her seen to quickly.
Best of luck and healing wheeks from my 3 xx

Fingers crossed for you M, if it is bloat the car journey may well help a little.

Just spoken to vet, certainly seems to be bloat, just a quick update as we are on the way back, will do a more detailed reply when back as hard to type on phone and walk. Been told to give her probiotic and meta-something, keep her warm, soften her food and make sure she gets water if she stops drinking. Vet said we could try giving her some weak Ribeba as she'll like the sweetness and it contains vit c. Hopefully I'll get paid soon so we can get her more treatment if needed! Thanks for the replies xxxxx

Oh dear - well done for your prompt action.

Hopefully the vet has checked there is no obstruction in the gut and therefore has prescribed a gut motility drug?

Will await your update

Hi, yes she did check, couldn't find any obstruction... Just have to hope for the best and give her the medicine. I dont have any ribena but I do have morello cherry cordial - I am wondering if that would help. I moved her to her own small cage so she wont be trampled on by the herd, fixed up a water bottle for her and put Pinky (beanie-baby guinea pig) in with her for company. She's still very swollen so I hope all this will help.

I wasnt planning to write as much as I did on the last post, so thats more or less everything at the moment to be honest but I'll update again with any news.

Thank you to all x

Update

Sorry everyone but Biscuit passed away in my arms at 01:40, we are getting the things ready for her to be buried tomorrow. I have chosen the things to go in her box and will update in the bridge section when done.

Thank you to everyone who has offered support.

Really sorry to hear of your loss :( you did everything you could for your little piggie friend and really feel for you.

I lost my chinchilla in my arms a few months ago and but you can take comfort from the fact that your little friend was with you when they went to sleep for the last time feeling happy and contented.

RIP Biscuit x

Jon.
