Hi,
If anyone is about who's knowledgable, I'd appreciate any helpful advice.
I picked S/pete from the vet yesterday pm having been syringe fed & given loads of fluids all day
http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=51588

he was a bit bloated when he came back. This morning he's still bloated
it doesnt look as if he's pooped or weed all night. He's cold & weak and
I'm sure he's dying, I've left him in a comfy bed with crystal near him.
I'm concerned that he must be so uncomfortable, is there anything I can
do to help him poop? Perhaps his body has just shut down.
Any suggestions? the vets aren't open yet.

Was he X-rayed?

Maybe his stomach is overloaded. But I don't know, if this can cause a bad smell and drooling.

I keep my fingers crossed.

Yes that seemed the obvious thing to do, I may try gently, dont want to hurt him.

Any better now? Have to say I'd phone the vet for advice on this one, it sounds more urgent than anything I could say to you. I hope he's comfortable. xx

Hi, I rang the vets, they basicaly said if he could still swallow they could give him some more intense feeding & drugs for bloat etc. so I've tried to syringe feed him but
he's too far gone, there's no sign of him trying to eat it, his jaw is slack & he's too weak to lift his head. He's managed to drag himself to where he's comfortable, I've given him a drop of water, but I dont think it went down.
Just waiting now...I wish it was over.

Hi Kitty,

I am so sorry, hugs and squeaks to you both.

Rachael and Tigger. xxxxxx

I'm so sorry. Just keep him warm and give him loads of love. Maybe put him on a warm hot water bottle covered in a towel.
Hugs to you both. X

This is horrid, he's having little spasms sometimes, now I wish I'd taken him to the vets this morning to be pts, its taking so long, I feel so bad that there's nothing I can do, & I'm afraid incase he's in pain.
I suppose its better that he's relaxed at home & not afraid as he would be at the vets

Just keep him warm and comfortable. Wrap him up maybe in a blanket?

I know what this is like - sounds like when Dink passed. So sorry you are going through it. Just be there and make as comfortable as possible.

x

Ooh, I wish I knew how to help but I've never experienced this before. My heart goes out to you. X

He's gone. I suppose the spasms are what they call "death throes" He had a couple
of big ones at the end. It looked painful but I dont suppose he was aware at that
point. I hope not. Crystal is with him, I wonder if she knows.

Lord I'm in bits & I've got to go to my sons school event, I hope the sun shines so I can hide behind big sunglasses.
Thankyou all for the support

RIP Squeekypete

Very sad. x

Hope the son comes out too - these events always happen at the worsttimes, and always something you HAVE to attend. Take care. x

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I've not had it with a piggy but I've been through it twice with hamsters - where part of you wants it to be over and all of you wants a miracle recovery. I kept mine warm, stroked them and talked to them and cried my eyes out (as I'm doing now).
Sending you and him love and wishing you strength.

When my post went on a while ago I saw that it was too late. I'm very sorry for your loss. You'll always be glad you were there for him. RIP beautiful Squeekypete.

I am so sorry. I know exactly how it feels. You were there for him, that is some comfort, isn't it.

I'm so sorry for your loss, it does sound like he was too far gone. Your description of him being too weak to lift his head and just not up to eating or swallowing anything is just like my Charlie's last day too...you know when they're too far gone.

I'm sorry you had the distress of watching him pass as well. I have lost three pigs (and four more pets) and heard a lot about the spasms - "running to the bridge" - but not experienced it before. I dread the day. Take some comfort from the fact that SP was unaware by that point.

Big hugs. I hope the sun comes out for you.

Rest well, sweet Squeekypete. xx
