it sounds to me that they are fighting whenever you put them back into the cage or run, could they just be showing whos dominent and everytime you put them into a different enviroment then they have to sort out who is boss again and mabe they are getting a little frustrated? x

You have just made a good point there. when they fought today it was when i had just put them in the run, and last night was when i had just put them back in their cage. hhhm thats something to think about but how could i avoid it as they need to come out for a little run xx

Is it possible to make the run next to their cage, so that they can jump in and out of the open cage themselves? I always use a little platform for my guineas to get in and out, for example a shoebox with a towel over. This means they are free to be in either the cage or the run, but never really leave either. Maybe this gives them a little less to get worked up over.

thanks thats a good idea also. I'm getting a cc cage it should be here next thursday so I'm hoping that can give them some time out but saying that its only 4x2 and i think thats what they are in now. I might try the run idea tomorrow though.

I have put them both back in their cage after being in the run allday and again they are fighting! am i leaving them in the run too long?

Hiya - sorry your boars are fighting!

Where are you buying your C&C cage from? Is it coming already assembled or could you actually make it bigger if you have the space.

A 4 x 2 is a big cage but if you can make it bigger them bigger the better. If you had a big pen type cage then they wouldn't need the run as it's a big space for them to run and do laps in anyway (apart from if you were putting them out on the grass and then the grass would hopefully keep them occupied)

I have boars but only one boar per herd of girls. Boars of a certain age can fall out but it can work out okay as long as they don't make each other bleed through fighting, once they do that you cant usually put them back. Giving them a permanent big space along with 2 of everytng will help and hideys that have a door in and out so no one can get trapped inside. I use cardboard boxes for this purpose - they are free and versatile and edible ;)

Good luck for the next few days - maybe keep them out of the run until you have a solution planned for their pen / cage.

If the run is bigger than the cage, I would maybe make that there permanent home until there new cage comes, really the bigger the better as Lisa says. Boars do fallout, Sad but true :(... Space is a big help but even then it does not guarantee them staying friends.

hi lisa thanks for your reply. I am getting my cc cage from the for sale section on here. i should get it by thursday. I bought one ready made because i wouldnt have a clue were to start with it lol. The cage I'm getting is 4x2 but it has a second floor as well, but my boyfriend says the one i got now is 4x2 but i cant see it its the 55 quid from pets at home its not so big really. They seem to be fighting over who goes underneath the ledge bit (that the hay and food is on top off). I might try taking the ledge bit out and put a hidey in tomororw.

So do you think i dont put them in the run until i get their cc cage? It does seem to be following a pattern, its when i put them back in the cage after the run, or in the run after being in the cage, weird isnt it.xx

hi joanne iv put them back in their cage for the moment, they scrapped when i put them in but i cant hear anything this moment (touch wood, I'm sure it will fire up again). I am contemplating keeping them in the run until thursday but then i thought it could cause further issues because the run is bigger than the cc cage so will they not fight when they get in the cc cage because they have got used to being in a big run...? xx

Boars are difficult, thats for sure, I think the run would be best can you measure there current cage?

Were are you getting your C & C cage from, what company?

iv just had a look on the website the current cage they are in is 46 x 57 x 95cm i dont know what that is in feet.

The pen they have is the guinea pig pen from pets at home which is 90x50x1cm iv just copied it off the website haha.

the cc cage is off one of the members alix, its in the for sale section its got loads of replies xx

For a moment I thought it was run rabbits run... Hopefully someone will convert that into feet for us, I think it is too small but you are already sorting that problem :).

ye i think its too small to it looks too small to me. Iv just been in to see them now its davids turn sat outside the hidey, i can sense a really bad atmosphere with them its weird they normally sit with eachother eating hay but theres none of that at the moment.

a 4 x 2 is over 120 long, closer to 130cm by about 60cm so it is much bigger than your current cage. You still could go bigger though when you get experienced more at C&C's and cage building. Then if they ever did have a proper scrap with blood (hopefully they wont) you can section off half the cage for each so they can see and interact but can't hurt each other.

Personally I agree with Joanne - maybe put them in and keep them in the run until the cage arrives.

As someone has already said mabe you could move the run next to there cage, is the run inside if so could you move the boys permanently into the run until you get there new cage? that way they havnt got the stress of moving from one to another everyday? hope this helps x
