Hi, any advice appreciated please, my 3-4 yo rescue boar Cocoa has not been himself since yesterday evening. He is staying mostly in his hidey, he has a slightly runny nostril, his coat does not have its usual sheen and he smells of wee and poo. I have tried to gently push his poo out of his anal area in case of compaction, it all feels soft and he didn't show any signs of discomfort. He just doesn't seem his normal , inquisitive, active self and has little interest in hay, pellets or his veg.
I tried to make an emergency appt with his vet but they cannot see him until 9:45am tomorrow. He lives in the kitchen with his boar friend, he is the submissive one but they have not been fighting and there is no problem with access to food. Thanks in advance.

PS I'm also wondering if it would be a good idea to gently wash his bum with warm water, as there is some squidgy poo smeared around. Would you avoid doing this? He is not showing any signs of respiratory infection apart from one slightly runny nostril, but I'm not sure whether I should just keep him dry.

Please step in and syringe feed him straight away. You will need to weigh him daily to ensure you get enough syringe feed into him. Use his normal pellets mushed up with water if you do not have a recovery feed. Keep offering him plenty of hay.

You can try to wipe his bum with a damp cloth but I would not do a bum bath while he is not feeling well.

Perhaps the vet will have a cancellation, it might be worth you trying them again later. If he deteriorates between now and the scheduled appointment, then you will need to see an out of hours/emergency vet
