Does your piggie have a grey moustache and beard as well? Oliver started getting it a few months ago. He was also diagnosed with cataracts but he's doing great with it and can still see a bit but won't move things in his cage now so he knows where everything is ☺️ Xx

No beard of moustache I'm afraid, but sometimes he has some nice veggie stains ;).

Oreo hasn't really had many other problems and his only eye issue was hay poke.

If you are in Herts, are you able to travel to Northampton at all? the best dental vet in the country is there. Simon Maddock at the Cat and Rabbit clinic.

Sorry to hijak the thread.

It's too far away from me, unfortunely. My vets are experienced though. When I went in today, they had also done dentals on two rabbits!

We are just back from vets as Oliver has now stopped eating altogether He had been eating stuff since Monday when he had procedure, not much but he still did and done well yesterday. He is also sitting facing corner of cage if I take out his igloo which I know is not good.

He had an injection (can't remember name) but began with m and equivalent to epidrem. I have also to give him in a few hours 0.4ml of ranitidine.

I queried the dose of metacam and she said that's the maximum but to be honest I feel 0.2ml every 24 hours is not doing its job and I don't want him to experience pain if he is.

We are to see how he goes over next couple of days but my biggest fear is that the procedure hasn't worked and I'm prolonging his suffering but we need to give him time due to recovery.

It's breaking my heart seeing him like this and hope he isn't in pain. Do you think vet is sticking to text book and I can give him more at 12 hour intervals instead?

He had 0.2ml at 13:30 today and I am due back at work tomorrow so do you think I could give him a dose about 8? As I won't be back until 17:30. He is going into my neighbours house who will feed him and not be alone. He's got the 1.5mg/ml dog metacam.

It does sound like they are going by what is in their formulary, I would dose twice a day personally but I am not a vet and would be happier if your vet would agree to it.

Our usual vet was day off today and vet we got although really good went to double check in a book

For Oliver's comfort I am going to give him 0.2ml every 12 hours. Having Oliver comfortable to get him through this is my upmost priority.

Hi everyone

Thought I would give an update.

Oliver is now 1425g and eating and drinking on his own I still give him a syringe feed at night because he absolutely loves it with either celery and water blended or banana and water.

He does however seem to have aged but he has been through a great deal but very inquisitive and still zooms about at floor time into everything

I just want to thank you all for your kind words and advice at such a worrying time x
