I have two girls, about two years old. They have been housed together for about a year and there have never been any problems. To set the scene I just got back from a 3 day vacation where someone was taking care of them (basically just doing the basics). Starting this morning one of my guinea pigs have been biting the other one, dry humping, chasing, and just being so mean. The other girl is so scared and keeps running away. I have the Midwest guinea pig cage, so for now I put their divider up, gave them both food, water, hay, chews, and a house. My plan is to keep them seperated for a few hours so they can calm down, they maybe reintroduce. I just need help. What do I do?

Could the terroriser be in heat?... someone else will be along soon. I’m not as clued up on girls as I am with boys.

It sounds like the one who is doing all the chasing and humping might be in season.

Sounds like a strong season to me, it can be pretty brutal and relentless to witness at times. Good news is it should only last a day or two before it calms down. Wiebke wrote a guide on strong seasons with some videos which you might find interesting and useful When Sows Experience A Strong Season (videos)

Thank you! Also do you think that keeping them apart for a bit is the right course of action?

If it's aggressive and the one in season is stopping the other one from doing things like eating then yes absolutely separate. Otherwise I just let them get on with it. I remember once my underpiggy had a strong season (she's since passed on) but my word she was relentless and it was so very noisy! Good earplugs were definitely needed. If it doesn't calm down in a day or so then it might be worth taking her for a vet check up as ovarian cysts can cause aggressiveness in sows

The one (most likely in season) is stopping the other one from eating. How long should I probably separate them? Also right now I have it so they can’t see each other. Because the aggressive one is attacking the other one through the bars in the divider.

I'd leave it for a day or so as Lady Kelly suggested and see how it goes.

Leave it a day or two. She's not attacking the divider that's just the weird quirks of piggies, often you get ones that don't want to be together but when they can see the other they can't bear to be apart and try to break down the divider :))

Just make sure when you reintroduce that you do so on neutral ground and have plenty of time spare to observe and make sure they are settling. Full fall outs between sows is possible but fairly rare
