My little boy Jewel is putting us through the mill at the moment.

He's only about 10 weeks old, and we have had him for 3. He was on his own so we took him in and we have tried to find him a guinea pig friend but he didn't bond with any of the boys at the rescue. Anyway, he has been getting tamer with us and enjoys his cuddles and squeaks good morning and for breakfast. He has been gaining about 50g each week.

At the start of the week he was constantly eating hay. He still had his appetite but is a bit fussy, tends to just eat kale and a bit of carrot. Today when we spot cleaned his cage nothing worrying, but then we put him in his pen to run around and he seemed a bit distressed. When we took him out some of his poo was formed but a little soft, but then I noticed a big patch on his fleece which looked like complete watery diarrhoea. He's back in his cage, drinking and eating hay and jumping around. His tummy is a little big but not obviously distended. But obviously I am very concerned about his poo and wondering what to do and how I can help. Any advice welcome!
 
Has he eaten a lot of watery veg recently? Things like cucumber?
 
No, he only eats kale, parsley, carrot, occasionally red pepper. He wont eat any other veggies.
 
Hopefully, it's just an upset tummy. Keep him off veggies for a while - just hay, pellets and water. If the soft stool persists - or you fell his abdomen gets more distended - I advise a vet check .
 
Get rid of the veggies for a few days and see. The water in the veggie might have done something
 
Thank you. Will try no veggies. He is probably not going to like it but cant risk him getting worse :-(

He might throw a tantrum for a few days but wait until his poop is solid and SLOWLY feed the least watery veggy possible. Such as carrot or fennel. If this does not work out. A vet is needed
 
anyway, when his belly will recover, be careful with kale and parsley together because the ratio calcium: prosphorus is too high in both of them. Too much calcium and too little phosphorus cause troubles into the urinary system. I advice you to check Guinea Lynx charts, there is also an useful calculator online.
About his being on his own, long ago I had a boar who lived alone, I had a lot of time for him and he seemed to be happy... Of course it is definitely better to find a mate for him, but he will not live depressed alone, if there is family life all around him. My piggie used to popcorning all day long and died for his wrong diet (thanks to his "cavy savvy" vet), not for his being alone.
 
thanks. he never gets kale and parsley together I have the guinea lynx list printed out by fridge while I am still getting used to everything. he doesnt get all of the veggies at the same time I just listed what he will eat as he doesnt like most veggies.

We would love to get him a friend. We do have a lot of time for him but we are considering getting him neutered when hes a bit older so we can find him a wife / wives...but we are worried about the risks of surgery.
 
yes we are close to tees valley rescue centre. he wouldnt bond with any of the boys there
