Our little long haired girlie with the poorly eye has been scratching and has scratched the scabs off it.

My hubby found her lying on her back twitching from the pain! She keeps doing it though and is squeeking in so much pain. I don't know what to do to stop her scratching it off. She is covered in blood and just keeps doing it but is hurting so bad! Does sudacrem help with this or not?

Does anyone know what I can do PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!

Sorry I can't advise on this one, and I never guess with illnesses. Thinking of you and your pig. Hope someone who can help comes along soon. xxxxxxx

She has been to the vet on Thursday when we got her and they advised not to wash it or do anything with it and it should clear up on it's own. I am shaking after my hubby found her on her back sqeeking. It is an injury from the breeder putting her in with a strange piggy who bit her ear and eye.

It is just an injury, not an illness. Just need to know if there is anything we can do to help her stop scratching please x

sorry hun I thought it was linked to mites

all I can suggest is to wash it with warm water and put pressure on the area to stop the bleeding

x

probably stupid idea but dogs have those stupid collars on to stop them scratching thier stitches could you maybe fashion something like that to stop her. i personally would bathe it with bit of salt in water and put pressure on to stop the bleeding

Surely it won't sting as it is used on open wounds for people and all sorts of animals x

is it safe to put near an eye though? is it ok if they lick it off?sorry i have never used it on an animal only babies on their bottoms.
is she in a lot of pain still?

give her 0.2mls of calpol for the pain twice a day but does need see the vet again has guineas can have fits if the pain is that bad and the stress can lead to even more health problems....hope she getts better soon

I have looked it up every where suggests bandaging the area and giving pain relief. How do I know how calpol to give a tiny baby, she weighs 200grms.

I gave Jensen 0.2ml of infant calpol after his rat attack for his pain - he was only a couple of weeks old

I would irrigate the eye with some saline [ warm salt water] solution and just cuddle her with a cover over the eye,to just calm her down. You could give some calpol 0.2ml for pain relief.
Hope it settles soon.

Have just given her the calpol. The bleeding has stopped. I don't want to do anything to stress her out. She is calm and quietly sqeeking but not like in pain.

OMG that's scary. I was going to say keep her on your lap for now.

Is it IN her eye? Pets at home sell wound powder but i don't know about using it by an eye.

The calpol should help the pain - so glad she's not in pain now.

Whew - hope an expert comes on soon (Laura or AP preferably)

Keep her on your laps until you get a proper answer.

Is the eye itself scratched? Calpol is best avoided, for a young pig, unless the pain is very severe. You could get Chloramphenicol Ointment, from a chemist, to put into the eye, it will reduce, or stop, any infection. Sterile saline can be bought, it is sold for contact lens users. Alternatively, buy some Optrex eyer drops.

Ok so her medical history right now is only as far back as Thursday obviously.

She has scurvy, mites and a severe wound above her right eye and ear. Here is a pic I have just taken of what she has done to her face, hope the pic helps.

The wound is not in her eye so that's ok. She is calm right now but if I don't give her calpol what can I give her?

Poor baby - I dont know what to say that looks so sore.
