Why is my babys eye like this? her breathing is groggy to, she has lost weight and is only 8 months :(
 
Take her to the vet immediately. Shallow breathing is a sign of infection. Guinea pigs can die quickly from them so urgent vet care is essential. There will be emergency vets in place.
 
I think eyes that are water are a sign of a URI or something so you should get to the vets !
 
Were off to the vets at 20 2 9 I'm soo worried, the vet said she sounds really not very well, i hope she is ok :0:0:0 did you see the picture from the link? x

Yes, does seem symptomatic of a URI/LRI - only an examination can confirm.
Antibiotics will help, ask for Probiotics as well if you have none at home :)

I had a little one with pneumonia recently - if caught quickly, can be treated successfully so think positive.
 
If she has fluid on her lungs, it may be an idea for you to also ask for Frusemide as well as the antibiotics, as Frusemide is a diuretic & will be very helpful in clearing the fluid quickly.
 
We've just been to the vets with her, she doesn't have fluid on her lungs thank god, she's got a URI and she has been given eye drops and an injection which has instantly perked her up, we have to go and fetch her some antibiotics tomorrow. The vet said it's because we got her from pets at home and that rabbits in the shop carry certain bacteria that's really bad for guinea pigs. So we have to keep her seperate from her sisters just now and watch how much she poops, also she is really under weight but weighs 990g although you can feel her pelvis :{ thanks for all your help.
 
Aww, well done for getting her to the vets quickly! Let's hope the treatment works well and she's returns to her normal self soon.
 
Hopefully the antibiotics will help her recover soon. Keep a close eye on her weight to make sure she is eating and pooing. You've caught the infection early. Sending her lots of healing vibes x
 
Thanks very much, it's so worrying when they're ill :S but she is munching on curly kale as we speak. Will it matter that Lola her cage mate is licking her eye and giving her kisses? I'm just sorting out her spare cage and put them together but now Lola is sensing something is wrong :S
 
Piggies know when each other are poorly. Putt used to lick Pitch's face when she had dental problems..
It may be worth getting a pro biotic in as Antibiotics can be harsh on piggie's tummy's a little sprinkled on her food or syringed to her will help. It's also a good idea to weigh daily while they are poorly, that way you know how much food they are getting in.

She's on a childs antibiotic that tastes like banana :) the vet suggested baby food is this right?x

That is Septrin. That Anti-biotic is not as harsh on the guts, but still may be worth giving a little pro biotic..

Mushed up pellets or critical care is better for syringe feeding if you have to, rather than baby food.
 
I think she said it began with a T maybe that was the eye drops lol still got all these names to get used to. Can Lola catch her infection or not? xx

Possibly but unlikely in our experience. If she does you'll spot the symptoms and be able to take her to the vet. Just keep an eye on her.

If she is eating as normal and not losing weight I wouldn't see the need to syringe feed.

Hope she begins to feel better soon.
 
Personally, I think piggies become a bit depressed on their own so if she seems ok, would keep her close to her buddy. Is there any way you can pop a temporary divider in so they can see each other etc. ?
When my girl was poorly, she appeared to 'forget' how to eat without her buddies so found she was better being close to them as she thought they were going to come and take her munchies off her rolleyes
Think they recover quicker too - just my opinion and stopped me worrying about reintroductions too :{

Re the baby food ....... if you can get some science recovery or critical care (available from your vets) or you have some good quality guinea pig pellets (i have oxbow), these mushed up are better than the baby food.
 
Thanks for the advice. Iv already noticed a huge difference in her and shes only had 2 doses of septrim :)). we have her separated in a 2 tier cage so she has the top to herself and seems to be eating a lot more (in fact she hasn't stopped eating all morning). I am gonna let them run around the living room together for a few hours and was thinking about keeping her separate till wednesday when ill clean there cage out again?
 
Well i'm a clean freak with my girls they get cleaned out twice daily, they're on paper and hay........ i clean out the areas that i know get grotty (they tend to dirty more around their food areas)
I do a BIG full clean out, that's everything out and steralised and then new paper etc.. once a week.

That's great that's she's responding to the septrim so well wooooo hoooooooooo x)
 
Thanks i am glad its working well she had me worried last nite. I am a clean freak as well there on fleece so its needs proper cleaned out every 3 days as well as the poop clean 2 or 3 times a day
