Hay should be as green as possible but I agree with you that they'd be better with poor quality hay for a day or two than no hay at all.

www.thehayexperts.co.uk and
www.animalmagicpetsupplies.co.uk both sell a great range of hays. The favourite tends to be Oxbow but it is the more expensive brand (although very well worth it in my opinion!). There are plenty of other good hays out there too.
Fuciderm Gel contains the antibiotic fusidic acid and the anti-inflammatory steroid betamethasone; as such, I wouldn't recommend it for treating a condition such as cheilitis. I would try to stick with something natural like Galen's Garden Green Cream (available from Gorgeous Guineas or Galen's Garden websites) as it is said to be good for use around the eyes/nose/mouth.
