urgent..please help.

Where can I get some syringes? I need to feed my bun but not sure where to get some on a holiday?!
 
If you can;t find a vet hospital near you that provides 24hour cover (which means there will always be someone on duty) as a bit of a long shot -you could try a large supermarket that has a pharmacy. Failing that what about minor injuries unit or A & E?

It's a long shot, but if you went to A&E, and managed to grab the attention of a nurse (don't ask the receptionist, they just tell everyone to "book in to be seen" LOL!, and don't ask a doctor, they don't know where anything is kept!), they may be kind enough to give you a syringe. I know that I would give you syringes if it was an emergency, but you do need to pick the right person...if they're not an animal lover, they'd tell you to go away, as it is a hospital and not a vets afterall... :(

OH has popped to Boots, their pharmacy is open!

Any suggestions on what to feed my bun? He's getting 5ml syringes, do I need to be careful with air? I don't want to do her any harm...
 
Just watch out with 5ml syringes I find the suckers break easily - maybe cut the bottom bit off and file down so it doesnt scratch the inside of the mouth as you can suck the food up easier. Mash some pellets up with some warm water (leave to cool if too hot) and then try and get as much in as possible.
 
if your syringe feeding into the mouth you dont have to worry about air in the syringe. Its only if you were injecting into the blood or stomach tubing that air in a syringe would be an issue
 
I was going to say Boots, I got some baby syringes... the man asked if I meant it for a baby... so I said yes... well kinda lol
 
I have managed to get something into her, have done it quite a few times over the last few hours. She is actually sitting on my lap and falling asleep which she never does.

She seems brighter and more alert, the vet said to take her in the morning.

She seems to be grinding her teeth, they look OK so I'm thinking maybe she is just because she is under the weather rather than it being her teeth....

Has anyone had a bunny or piggy that have a bad day then is fine without anything being diagnosed?
 
Which vet are you using?
Glad she seems brighter and more alert - keep syringe feeding her and I'd personally get up during the night too.
 
We are with Linden House Vets; the lady was very helpful and said to call back if I needed any advice over the phone which put my mind at rest. I was shocked the call out was £300...?! I though in an emergency it would be more like £80-100 ish...?

She is feeding well from the syringe at the moment. I will call back if she goes downhill; at the min she seems the same as this morning.

Will be setting my alarm every hour or two to check on her and give her some more to eat, she is sleeping alot but they often do during the day anyway. Florence won't leave her side and has groomed her from top to bottom today. She's such a sweetie x)
 
Ah I use Linden House - though I'd never have my guinea pig put down there again :(
Least she is syringe feeding well :)
 
Her last syringe feed went well, she let me put loads in and actually swallowed it!

She just drank fromt he water bottle as I held it to her and then ate a bit of apple and some carrot.

THEN she tucked into her usual bowl of pellets although I filled it right up to the top and they ate it all!

She's even nibbling straw, no hay het though....

Do you think I should take her to the vets tomorrow just to be on the safe side, even if she carrys on?

Also will veg be OK as they usually have a bowl before bed, if she just had a poorly day I don't want to upset her tum?
 
Has she had any diarrhoea at all? I'd **** personally leave her off them for tonight. Thats great that she ate a whole bowl of pellets :)
See how she goes tomorrow before you phone the vets - but thats just me.. she may of just been having a bad day but obv if she isn't still normal tomorrow then I'd take her but tbh I don't know what they'd say. They might just give you some probotics or something

She is back to herself now; I gave them both a solid hay chunk thing which they gobbled, had their veg, been drinking. I actually gave them another little handful of pellets just incase she goes off her food in the night!

Fingers crossed she's OK; if she's the slightest bit off colour tomorrow I will take her. Like you say if I took her in fine what could they do? I've already had 2 appts for the piggys when they've been fine! hehe.

Oh well; at least she's OK.

I honestly thought she was dying in my arms yesterday. I loved the cuddles we had though; maybe I have magical cuddles?! haha xx
