Hello everyone. One of my piggies has had some diarrhoea. She was a bit quiet yesterday. And today had the loose stools, I’ve given her fibreplex as instructed by my vet. What is strange is one of my other piggies poppy had the exact same symptoms last week after being on Baytril for two days. We all thought, including the vet, that she had reacted to the Baytril. But now one of my other piggies honey is showing the same symptoms I wonder if it ever was the Baytril that made poppy feel poorly? I sent a poop sample off last week as their poops were quite smelly so i did a sample to rule out infection or parasites. Honey is eating hay and pellets still but she is a bit quiet and obviously feeling rubbish because of the diarrhoea. I’ll be cutting out all veggies for a day or so. But I’ve come on here to see if anyone has any Experiance with anything like this.
like I said poppy is completely fine now after a few days of it and is back to normal. Can guinea pigs get stomach bugs like people? Can it spread? And can you offer any advice?
Thank you so much in advance x
Ps. They were all initially on Baytril as they were sneezing more often so the vet put them on it as a precaution but they’re sneezing is fine now x

Hi, sorry I can't offer much other than take them off fresh veggies for a few days until the poo returns to normal.

If you are unwell at anytime, it is always advised that you keep up a strict hygiene, so washing your hands before and after handling your piggies.

I hope you get to the bottom of it.

You need stop giving them fresh veg until their poops return to normal, once they return to normal, then keep them off veg for a further 24 hours. They could be off veg for several days in total. If it doesn’t improve after a couple of days, then please speak to a vet
When you begin adding veg back in, do it slowly and it is advisable to start with herbs as the tend to be a bit kinder to the tummy

:agr: with @Piggies&buns .

Always wait with reintroducing veg for at least 24-48 hours after the poos have fully normalised. Give the gut time to rebalance.
See a vet if your piggy is getting worse or if problems persist/recur. You may know more once the lab result is coming back; until then all we can do is speculate as to the cause, which is not going to help you.
