hello not had a chance to come on today until now been moving house and feeding every 3/4 hours, she has only been taking between 5 and 10ml of critical care throughout last night and today but she seems alot more alert and has even been drinking from water bottle and nibbling on veggies but only a tiny amount but just glad she is interested. Fingers crossed she hangs on in there. Just hope she is taking enough food

I hope they'll be ok. Try not to blame yourself, I don't think many people would read the bag and realise it didn't have added vitamin C. I know I don't usually.

thanks, absalutely gutted that i lost my babies through something as stupid as not reading the bag.....lesson learnt

hello not sure if someone has already put this but yesterday i went into pets at home to find vitamin C stuff for my piggy and they sell vitamin C drops to add to water especially for guinea pigs i think its £3.89 or something close, i expect it can be fed to them via water in a syringe aswell! just thought id say, hope all is ok! xxxxx

Maisie is eating by herself so not being fed by me but Evie is still being fed by me and seems to be getting back to herself slowly, she is drinking water herself and eating tiny bits of veggies. I'm feeding her every 4 hours and she is taking it well now with very little fuss. Weighing them everyday and slowly increasing so hopefully she makes a full recovery.

* r doing so well! They r lucky to have * to nurse them as * obviously really care xx

Breakthrough! Evie has been eating food today by herself :) veggies and her pellets, am going to continue to feed her for couple of days but reduce how often maybe cut it down to 3/4 a day and see how she gets on. Hopefully she is starting to feel better :)

Great news just saw this thread.

Do you mind if I ask what veg you were giving them previously? I know my pigs rarely get pellets and now I'm a bit concerned mine could get Scurvy.

Mine mainly had stuff that we had left over we never used to buy specifically for them as we were told they got everything they needed from their pellet food. So they would have carrots/spring greens/peppers/corn that sort of thing.

Ive learnt my lesson for sure as i lost both my 8 month old pigs because of this and could still loose their mum too :(

Sending HUGS for you love and loads of kisses from both the girls and I to Evie and Maisie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes, best wishes from me too, but it sounds like you've done really well with caring for them, so I hope all will be well.

gave evie her feed this morning and after just 8ml she was spitting it back out so i put her back and shes been munching away on her pellet and veggies. Am going to keep an eye on her weight (which is so far creeping back up) and not feed her critical care unless i need to as she just isnt interested no more and if i feed her that she wont be hungry for her other food. Fingers crossed she continues to get better :)

Just a bit of an update... Both my girls are back to their old selves :) i am so happy that they pulled through and are nearly back to their old weight. Thanks to everyone on here for your help and suppport xx From me, Maisie and Evie

Have only just read this post and was afraid to read the last page :...
Hey, well done, you should be very proud of yourself :)) Think of the first hand advice you can offer others now from this experience and knowing you saved your piggies lives x>>

I Have only just caught up on this thread, so glad they both pulled through, you did a great job, sorry about the 2 you lost.

I'm glad i read this thread as i don't read the packets and didn't realise Vit C was so important, can anyone tell me how good wagg guinea pig food is? We bought a 15kg Bag a while ago and have been feeding this with P@H GP Nuggets, i'm really worrying now as i'm at work and cant check the packets.

not sure but reading my bag of wagg it says there is 200mg of Vit C per kg of feed so i would suppliment it with veggies. i do and so far no problems (my guineas have been eating it for 6 months now well my oldest 2 have :)

i had been feeding wagg before with no veg and no problems we had changed food about 6 months before they got scurvy. Give plenty of veggies high in vit c red peppers are a favourite with my two.
